Welcome, Edward!
It's great to hear that your recall is improving!
Keeping a DJ and performing reality checks is a great way to induce DILDs (dream induced lucid dreams) where you become aware of the dream state from within the dream.
It takes different amounts of time for each individual to have their first lucid dream, but if you continue with the practices you're currently doing, I'm sure it won't be long before you start to question your reality while you're dreaming!
There are different levels of awareness within dreams.
By definition, to be lucid within a dream simply means to recognise that you are currently dreaming.
It's possible to have lower levels of lucidity, which some people refer to as being 'semi-lucid'. This is more like a vague background awareness than a definite realisation.
You generally won't have that kind of self-awareness in non-lucid dreams, which is why we're able to believe in fictional scenarios without questioning where we are or who these strange characters are who we've never met.
I wish you luck on your lucid journey!
Time and consistency are the keys to success, so keep up the great work!
Let us know if you have any more questions.
