      Hello from a procrastinator

      Greetings!

I've been registered on here for 5 months, but haven't used that time productively in the forums. This is my first activity! I'm sure you can all tell what my name is and what I do for a living based on my username

I got into this because my husband was interested and now we have even more things to discuss in our everyday lives. I've had 2 lucid dreams so far. The first one was completely by mistake and the second one was after giving myself the affirmation before bed "I will have a lucid dream and it will always be sooner rather than later" (did that for a few weeks before it worked).

I'm a pretty lazy dreamer. I know that means that I won't be as successful as the people who are more structured in their dream habits (*coughs* like my husband), but that's fine with me. I have my own way of recognizing the lucid dream anyway. I can't tell you how many times the looking at your hands has failed me! Basically I question reality and even if reality seems fishy I made up my mind that I was indeed in a dream though I have had probably a dozen near misses (where the dream changed on me and then I forgot to question reality). I've read most of Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge and otherwise I gloss knowledge from my husband and those who come to our monthly meetup group about Lucid Dreaming.

Now that I have properly announced myself I'll try to be a better dream student and see what works for other people and maybe participate in dream goals. Thanks in advance for those of you who will surely help me!

Welcome, sallybrarian, glad to have you here!

Don't worry about lurking for a bit; it's never too late to introduce yourself! Very cool that your husband also lucid dreams. It seems like such a cool thing to be able to share with your partner. With two lucids under your belt, a lucid dreaming spouse, and a monthly meetup group, you're off to a great start!

You know, I've had very mixed results with the "look at your hands" reality check as well, and I had to move on to others that worked better for me. The "pinch your nose shut and breathe through it" reality check still seems to be the most reliable one for me. I like your idea of relying on your awareness for discerning dream from reality, but for those times when it's nice to have a physical reality check as a back-up, the nose plug is pretty great.

Best of luck as you continue your journey here on DV, and let us know if we can help you along in any way!

Your husband has some skills. I have been trying to get my wife on here for a couple years now. I would recommend this thread:
      http://www.dreamviews.com/attaining-...technique.html

It is a simple awesome technique that is easy and effective for most everyone. It is easy and it works better the more times you do it. It is a good foundation!

Wait! Monthly LD meetings? Freaking jealous! I have monthly meetings too, hut they are alone.

Good luck lding. Ask if you have any questions.

Haha yes, this can happen sometimes. I find it more effective, if I don't just question reality, but I outright believe that I am dreaming right then (this during daytime practice). Then this feeling, rather than actual RC will transfer into our normal dreams, gives us a hint of awareness and lucidity, which in turn will trigger "looking at hands" or any other RC that you have been practicing. Btw, practicing 2-3 different RCs at the same time is good policy, because you never know which one will your subconsience like and use.

Please ask, if you have any questions. Happy dreams

      Yes! It is not:
      "Am I dreaming?" - - - look at hands.
      It is:
      "I am dreaming." - - - look at hands.

Great to have you here, Sally!

Your lucid dreaming meetups sound really interesting, it's awesome that you guys have set that up.
I'm lucky enough to live in a house with 2 other lucid dreamers, and it gets me excited to talk about dreaming with them.

I look forward to checking out your DJ and workbook!
      Good luck and sweet dreams!

~Dreamer~: That's pretty cool your housemates do that! I'm not as good about building and sticking to habits like my husband so...this is a slow and sometimes arduous journey -_- Thanks for the encouragement!

Sensei: Good point! I'm an overthinking self-doubter (multiple hand checks in same dream didn't help me). When the hands have looked the same my mind was really intent on not letting me into the dream. I think I was fortunate to have gotten plenty of rest earlier in the night for my brain to be closer to wakefulness. Trying the nose pinch is rather difficult because I get my hands dirty at the library and don't want to touch my face. I'll need to develop more RCs.

Mismagius: Thanks for the greeting! I'll have to have my husband read your comment since I'm more adventurous trying his things than vice versa Yay for reading! If you like manga and anime the library is always the cheaper way to go if you want the hard copy or dvd (because of course digital is usually free online). Anyhow, your profile looks like we have similar interests. Message me sometime about current animes you're enjoying! I just finished Psycho-Pass 2 (amaaaazing) and am reading Chihayafuru.

Hey Sallybrarian, welcome to DreamViews fellow Floridian! Love your name and avatar, I'm a huge reader, so I love libraries

The above posts already gave some great advice and resources, I second all of it.

It's cool you and your husband share dreaming as a hobby now, I think it's great when a couple tries out each other's hobbies/interests. You might not always like the same things but it's always good to give something new a try.

A monthly lucid dreaming meetup group sounds awesome!

It's great to have you here, if you need help with anything just let me know. I'll see you around! (^_^)/
