      Lightbulb My Introduction

      Hello Everyone, my names Dan.

I discovered the possibility of lucid dreaming only a month ago, after watching an incredible film called 'Waking Life' (I'm sure many of you here would have seen it). Since then I have been reconnecting with my subconscious and attempting to become more aware in my dreams. I stumbled upon a great book by Daniel Love called 'Are you Dreaming', which was in fact recommended in another great book for beginner Lucid Dreamers by Charlie Morley. Both books, but particularly Daniel's have completely changed the way I feel about sleeping and dreaming, and of course the nature of reality.

I have always had a strange relationship with sleep, and have never enjoyed doing it particularly. Never one for sleeping in late, or getting an early night. But in just the one month since seeing that film and starting my dreaming journey, I have become fascinated by sleep and by the concept of Lucid Dreaming. My aim is to become mindful in day to day life, and aware in my dreams.

I'm 25, in a great relationship with a beautiful girl, and I play guitar and write songs in a band for a living. We have been fortunate enough to sell over a million albums worldwide, and tour Europe, America and Australia. Effectively I have 'lived the dream' that I had as a young boy for the last 3 years of my life. But its only since I have began attempting to be lucid in my dreams that I can truly appreciate how lucky I have been in my waking life.

I don't really know anyone personally who is interested in Lucid Dreaming, so i would love to meet people here who I can share the passion with, as well as learning from their experience and knowledge.

Thanks for reading and hopefully speak soon!

      Hi Dan, and welcome!

I picked up Daniel Love's book on a recommendation too. I'm not done with it yet (half-read books make up the fabric of my life) but I really like the straight-forward, down-to-earth approach of what I've read so far. It's definitely one of the better ones out there.

As for sleep, as you've been noticing, it's a lot more interesting when you begin to pay close attention to it. It involves such a wide range of experiences that most people just overlook.

Congratulations on your band's success! One way you might use lucid dreaming is as a source of inspiration for your songs. I've found lucidity to be a strangely musical state... melodies arise almost effortlessly. And I'm speaking as someone with no musical skills at all in waking life. I imagine a musician could find great song ideas in the dream state. Just make sure to write them down or record them promptly! The memories fade all too easily after waking up.

Enjoy the forums, and I hope to see you around!

Thanks Verre, I appreciate the warm welcome!
You are totally right about the creative aspect of dreaming. I have already experienced some musical inspiration, seemingly from nowhere.
Glad to hear you have to.
