Greetings :) Back to LD after 10 years

I just wanted to say hello to all the fellow dreamers here and get to know the first names on this forum, which I probably visited one decade ago when I was on my lucid dreaming conquest.

I'm happy that I found this forum and hope to read cool stories, experiences and advices on lucid dreaming and I intend to stay here for a while.
During my teens I was so fascinated by the theory of Lucid Dreaming, even obsessed by it, and I even managed to have like ~10 LD.
They mostly were very short, because as soon as I realised that I was dreaming, I got so excited that I almost immediately woke up.
I even tried WILD some times, eventhough I was quite intimidated by all the sleep paralysis horror stories back then... once I got as far as seeing one tall, shadowlike man in my room, which of course freaked me out.
Yet I kept trying again and again, but every time I got somewhat far, my heart started beating like crazy and that scared me a lot, until I gave up.

Then waking life took over again, especially during early adulthood, and lucid dreaming was at the back of my mind for like 10 years, until I recently got a smartwatch.
I didn't even know that sleep tracking with smartwatches was a thing, so I downloaded one app and tracked my sleep for 2 weeks to get to know my REM phases first.
Even tried WILD again the other day, and tracked my heart beating rate with the watch during it, just to get rid of my fear.

Now I have a ton of plans and ideas of what I want to do next and hope to have some LDs.
I had a really short one last week, but I intentionally woke myself up because it was a nightmare.

      Cheers,
      SKYZ0R

Welcome to Dream Views, SKYZOR....or should I say welcome back?

Good idea to get to know your REM cycle. I have learned that timing is everything.

      Best of luck.

Hey, welcome to Dreamviews, SKYZ0R! If you find yourself experiencing sleep paralysis, try and keep in mind that you are safe and can enter a lucid dream from this state Good luck with your dream journey! It's always nice to meet new members.

Hi zelcrow, thank you and nice to meet you. You know, most tutorials on the internet keep repeating how terrifying sleep paralysis WILL be.
And that kind of stops me from getting more experience in the WILD technique. I'm like always WAITING for sleep paralysis to happen, eventhough I can get to the dreamlike imagery without SP and by just feeling kind of "numb" limbs. Somewhat more difficult to move, yet still possible.

In the OP I mentioned seeing a shadow like man once, that was actually after a failed WILD attempt. I fell asleep, and when I woke up after some minutes, I saw that. But never seen anything during the transition.

Edit: That's why I loved the WILD tutorial on this site. It doesn't really give a crap about SP. Also, I read the whole detailled tutorial by Sageous, which was enlightening.

And I think I didn't have an account on this forum, because back then I mostly visited German forums. Thanks for mentioning.

Thank you, Lang. I must say that the Lady on your display picture is quite stunning.
And yeah, this time I will not give up until I get to master at least one method for LD'ing.
I'm just kind of overwhelmed by all the new techniques and media (apps, audio, youtube hypnosis videos for LD'ing, etc.) and don't really know where to start and what to prioritize.

Yeah, it is nice that the tutorials do not focus much on SP within Dreamviews. From my understanding, most people don't experience it anyway, and if they do it is pretty infrequent. Good luck with WILDing. It seems like an awesome induction method!
