Hey Dj,
You know you're actually quite lucky in one way - you get to practice in that "zone" between waking and sleep! I would recommend keeping that up because you will, at some point, be able to go through the whole process into a lucid dream.
Even while still asleep I would think \"this is the perfect state to lucid dream\" but never could explore that thought becuase I was supose to be working. [/b]
I don't know for sure, but I think that you were, in fact, IN a dream at this time - you just didn't believe it to be true. The mind can easily reproduce sensations that can make it seem like you're experiencing waking life - like sitting in the couch and hearing the television. Next time, I would go ahead and do a reality check - even if you are convinced you're awake.
I've recently had the oportunity to try the NovaDreamer - and this one particular instance, I was confident that i was lying in my bed waiting to fall asleep when it fired the cue lights. Since I was told to hit the RC button on the mask no matter what - I did so. Sure enough, the lights didn't blink like they were supposed to! I was dreaming!!
