      I think im a Insomniac?

I just sighned up for the forums and read the tutorial. I'm excited about Lucid Dreams, but I think I may be an Insomniac. For years now I have had Extreme Difficulty Falling Asleep, Usually when I decide its getting Late I try to go to sleep but instead end up stearing at the Cealing for hourse on end.

For example, I will see that the time is around 12:30 at night, and should go to sleep to get up on time for work which starts at say 11:00 a.m.. Ill go to my bed and start to try and sleep but instead end up stearing up at the ceiling with my eyes closed for hourse on end in the dark, or changing positions every few hours and unable to sleep, or turning the TV on for 30 minuts, then trying to sleep again for a few hours. Eventually I will see that it has been about 5 or 6 hours that i have laid in bed trying to sleep with no succes what so ever. Eventually I will fall asleep and have to wake up an Hour later, or I will not be able to sleep at all, and realizing its to late to try now and just go off to work tired as ever.

Having this problem results in my haveing to constantly come home tired and accidently take naps on my couch or in a chair for 2 or 3 hours. I usually accidently fall asleep like this 2 or 3 times, which ruins my off time, my Eating habbits, and my ability to even attempt having Lucid Dreams.

When ever I try to sleep i notice a High Pitched Frequency in my head whcih tends to keep me awake as well, as if i were standing next to a high Voltage Power grid, but with a much higher pitch. I can only seem to notice this while the room is quite or im bored, ussualy i can't notice it while working or buisy.

      Can sombody pleas help me.

Firstly, have you been to see your doctor about this?
Also, what's your nighttime routine like? Do you consume a lot of sugary snacks or caffeinne before you go to sleep?
Do you take time to chill out?
What time do you finish work, is your job stressful?

I could make some suggestions for nightime routine.
An hour or so before bed, begin winding down. Turn off your computer if you use one. Make yourself a warm drink, like horlicks (i drink peppermint tea) this raises your body temperature ever so slightly, but when you cool down, you should feel tired.
I usually take my peppermint tea to bed with me, along with a book. I lie in bed reading for a little while, feel drowsy and drop off to sleep!
Let me know how you get on...

I haven't personally experienced insomnia. Do you use your bedroom in which to accomplish other tasks. I've read that it's often best to keep the bedroom for a place where you sleep rather than an office, dining room, etc. (Though I've lived in a dorm room for a long time, but we cope with that) Anyway, you could also try something like irish suggested, and have a before-bed activity. It could be showering or reading a book, or something that causes you to tell yourself, "I'm going to bed after this." It could help train both your mind and body to prepare itself for sleep.

As for the high-pitched noise, I've found that I notice it quite a lot if I'm in a particularly quiet room or if I focus on it (like I did just now). Do you have a fan in your room or something that could create some white noise? Even if you could have a radio tuned to a blank frequency so all you could hear was static. It wouldn't have to be loud, but it could just be something to counter what you're hearing.

But if you've had this problem for years, I'd recommend seeing a physician.

I have not yet seen a Doctor about this High Pitched Frequency, and once I almost did, but befor so convinced my self that maybe this is normal and somthing I must adapt to. After that I realized not everyone was hearing this noise that i do. As for cancelling it out with some small noise, that is somthing I will try tonight.

I would have to say that my eating habbits are very poor for when i am about to sleep. Usually befor going to sleep, I will spend at least 3 hourse on My computer, and for Dinner I normally eat Fast food, which everyone knows is full of sugar. And sometimes I will even have a Coke or Sprite to drink just minuts before going to sleep.
So I suppose maybe I have shot my self in the foot on that one. As for drinking warm Tea, I'd like to try it out, Maybe if You would be so Kind as to giveing me some Ingrediants?, or possibly letting me know where I can buy this.

I normally use my room as a office as well, fileing papers and on my computer. I'm afraid I may not be able to change that though.

Thank you for the suggestions, ill be trying them out. God only knows how much I can use a good Nights sleep. I'll be changing my diat for eating before sleeping for sure. If there are anyother suggstion i'd be very thankfull to hear about them. Thank you guys.

      sounds like tinnitus :

      What is tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a ringing, swishing, or other type of noise that seems to originate in the ear or head. In many cases it is not a serious problem, but rather a nuisance that may in time go away. It is not a single disease, but a symptom of an underlying condition. Nearly 36 million Americans suffer from this disorder. In almost all cases, only the patient can hear the noise.[/b]
and the eating thing is definately very poor, not that i'm much better, holidays have taken their toll on my gut...

anyway, I stay up late like you do but I would'nt call it insomniac because I can get to sleep, I just dont care much for sleep cause my mind doesnt care much for shutting up.

I usually read a book and it keeps my mind focused on the book and I just read till I knock myself out, with reading usually the book has a slow point and you get bored and just *nudge off* , yeah for the small noise, check out www.bwgen.com , good site, umm, I might have a copy of the software laying around...

I use my comp and stuff and it doesnt really effect me, I sleep with light on also, haha, it's in a post or something while i'm so mentally ill Anyway, you can buy tea, but some people dont like it. I think you could try some cheap tea, and if you dont like that, go straight for the good stuff... Spiced Hot Apple Cider... everyone on 3 ... 2 1 ... MMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmMMMmMMmMmmm.. Rumbly in tumbly and all that jazz

hehe, ummm, I think really you just need to calm yourself down before you go to sleep, learn to relax, try some breathing techniques, focus on WILD, dreaming, etc etc.

      Good luck,

Well, eating a heavy meal before bed is never a good idea, particularly if it's fast food. If i have to eat anything before bed, it's usually toast or cereal, something light.
Regards the peppermint tea, you should be able to get it in any supermarket or health food shop. Or you could boil some peppermint leaves in hot water and then strain it, but i'd rather buy it!

It's a shame you have to use your room as an 'office'. I moved rooms for that reason, because i found i couldn't wind down at night...
Good luck with the suggestions, keep us posted on how you do!

I'm glad someone else shares my enthusiam about Brainwaves

^_^ Isnt it helpful ! Exspecially the ones that like start out at a normal level then wind dooown, and your whole body goes Bleeeh!

ummm the Idea behind some of them are you play em while your sleeping, and at like 7 hours, it changes frequencies to a rem cycle requency, to help you realize your dreaming.

ummm, for me the headphones kinda, popped off

You can listen to it while doing self-hypnosis, um HILD is actually a Lucid Dreaming technique which uses hypnosis, but it also has the breathing/relaxtion technique.. I find it is reallllly helpful to be listening to that while your trying to go to sleep, and just breathing and counting your breathes like

Actually say, "One, In*breathe in* Two, Out*breathe out*, 3, In*breathe in, 4, out*breathe out*" I find that to be very helpful, your supposed to do it till 100 and you get rather tired by then.. ok, umm the thing with the brainwave generator is its Binaural beats, and your supposed to listen to it with headphones which is why the whole technology works, listening to it with other sounds can change the frequencies, like say... Metallica, For whom the bell tolls, while listening to Sleep Induction, isnt highly recommended. Listening to Chopin though, or any music from The Pianist is mostly relaxing. Funeral March might not be haha, umm, so if your gonna mix it, mix it with something you use to relax or feel happy with. I mixed it will, Lean on me by Bill Withers hah, I know it's weak but I enjoyed it, mostly if you sit there with headphones on, or if it allows lay there with em on, and you can try the breathing while listening to it, ya know closing your eyes it can be very relaxing... I take no responsibility for you banging your head on your desk from falling asleep

Anyway, try that program, if the trial runs out or you need a cd burnt I can hook you up with how to do that, or something?

^_^, Anyway good luck, I'm writing this at 3:40 am so... maybe I should take my own advice

Your question reminded me of another post here:
      Falling asleep quickly
Hope this helps, although techniques work better for some then they do for others its better to have a broad range to try. Ive found self hypnosis style mind games work the best for me. Forcing hypnogogia can still get me to sleep in 5 - 10 minutes without fail.

      Good luck

I used to have sleeping dificulties, I would go to bed at 10:00 and still be awake at 4:00, sometimes I even went whole nights without sleep. I started medication to help, but it wasn't strong enough so the dosage was increased until it worked. Then I had nightmares so I gave up the medication. I later found out that the medicine designed to supress my A.D.D (ritalin) was to blame. Since I had started the ritalin I had stopped being so active and as a result I had too much energy left at the end of the day to sleep properly. I gave up the ritalin and although I still do have some sleepless nights I find it easier to sleep.

If you are on any medication it might be having the same affect on you as it did me. If you are on medication consult your doctor, I don't want to be responsible for anything bad happening.

I also have the ringing in my ears, I hear it at all times though . It's been there for years and I have adapted to it. Over time you will probably adapt to it too.

if you're lying there for more than half an hour staring at the ceiling and thumb twiddling, get up!
go and do something, to take your mind off the fact that you're supposed to be sleeping.
