New to Dream Views, but not to lucid dreams

      Hi everyone,

My name is Sara and, by chance or fate, I found this website earlier this afternoon. I've been very involved in both experiencing and interpreting powerful dreams for as long as I can remember; it's only been recently, as my dreams have increased both in number and lasting impression, that I've thought to seek out others who dream so vividly.

I haven't always been aware of the term "lucid dreaming", though I've been experiencing lucid dreams since I was a child. (I'm 22 now.) During high school and throughout most of college I routinely dreamt of being pressed into my bed by an unseen weight, the force of which would dissipate if only I moved a finger, a toe, anything. At first it felt like the weight of the world on my body, and for years (literally) I couldn't do anything but lie and wait for the strange, unsettling feeling to leave. Then suddenly I realized I could exert an incredible amount of mental control to move a part of my body, and the sensation would lift as soon as it had appeared. When this happened, I started doing research and the closest I could come to explaining the phenomenon was through lucid dreaming.

I've learned I can also control the most random of dreams, changing the faces of people I encounter to fit my whims or even altering my surroundings. Also, many times I'll realize I'm dreaming at the very end of a dream, but instead of the dream ending instantly, I've been able to prolong my waking so everything in the dream slows down. I find an incredible peace in the place between sleep and awake and, though I've tried to explain this to my friends, they never quite understand - perhaps someone else has experienced any of these sensations?

I'm also curious to know how many of you find your dreams greatly affected by the moon. Despite my decades-long fascination with the moon, its correspondence to my dream cycle is just now revealing itself to me, and I couldn't be more excited to see what it holds in store.

I'm so glad I stumbled on this website, and I'm really looking forward to getting to know you and hopefully growing as a lucid dreamer. :-) Have a wonderful night, everyone!

Hi there! Welcome to Dream Views!

I find it interesting that you mention the moon and it's possible effects on dreams. Last night I had the first lucid dream I've had in about a month or so, and as I went downstairs at 4am in the morning to fetch my dream journal, I noticed that the moon was completely full, shining into the room. It was all very surreal, and I actually did a reality check because I thought it might have been a false awakening.

At that point I was actually wondering whether the moon had anything to do with my LD. I'm not one to believe in the spiritual side of things however, I just thought that there might be a link between lunar cycles and dreams. I've heard crazier things!

Anyway, I don't mean to ramble on!
Hope you have fun here, and don't hesitate to ask questions!

Fascinating. There really are a myriad of therapeutic and psychological reasons for pursuing lucid dreaming; I really need to update the site and explore that further.

Sounds like you're quite advanced in your ability. Regardless, it's not really possible to explain the sensations associated with lucid dreaming to someone who has never experienced it. It's definitely something that needs to be experienced firsthand to believe and understand. Even more interestingly, perhaps it's a unique experience for us all?

I'm also curious to know how many of you find your dreams greatly affected by the moon. Despite my decades-long fascination with the moon, its correspondence to my dream cycle is just now revealing itself to me, and I couldn't be more excited to see what it holds in store.[/b]
No; I cannot perceive of a logical explanation for that. I don't see why the addition of the gravitational pull of the moon should have any effect on one's dreams. You're sure it's not psychological?

      anyway, welcome to Dream Views!

Given the fact that our bodies are mostly water, I wouldn't be surprised if the phases of the moon had some mental effects. I've noticed that most of my lucids tend to come at periods approximately a month apart -- haven't checked the moon phases to see if it really syncs up or not, but it's something to consider.

      welcome

its very interesting that'd you'd mention a possible correlation between dreaming and lunar cycles. i'm curious enough to go reference my limited lucid dreams with a calendar..i'll repost if anything definitive results...and i'd love to hear if anyone else finds anything compelling referencing their own DJ.
