      Different Way To Begin LDing?

      Hey all,

A friend of mine has been LDing for years now. I asked him some advice to help me get started and he was very confident as he told me to sleep for five hours, wake up and either go to the bathroom or get a drink, then go back to sleep for two more hours. I know this is similar to attempting a WILD, but instead he said to not stay concious but fall asleep, and this should make it much easier to have an LD.

Has anyone heard this or done it?
Did I completely miss this in one of the tutorials?
      Does it help?

      Thanks,
      Rendu Complet

Hey there and welccome to the forum!!
That method is actually called WBTB (Wake Back To Bed). As far as I know, it is very useful for LDing, and can include WILDs as well.
I have done it a few times, due to insomnia, but other than that, not really. This is actually a much-used method, and can be combined with other methods as well. You can try it if you want to, but it does require some practice....and here is the Tutorial for WBTB!!
Enjoy, & if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!!

I think I do this a lot in the mornings that I can actually sleep in - like this morning, actually. I'll be having a dream, and wake up for whatever reason (usually it's the damn cats wanting to be fed), and I'll roll over and immediately fall back to sleep. This is when I have my most vivid and lucid dreams. I think it's because I'm not sleeping so deeply and if I wake up, the dream is still very clear to me and I can jot it down.

Yes, WBTB is a very good method to help LDing. You activate your consciousness, what do you expect... It works wonders with MILD, WILD and other techniques. It's also good for dream recall. For me, getting up for 1-2 minutes is enough to have my mind a bit active, then going back and trying WILD or just focusing on LDs. If you do it almost every night you'll get a nice increase in LD (and no sleep loss but you need to get to bed early to make up for the breaks).
The early morning is perfect for WILDs (after 4-6 hours of sleep). You should be very tired but at the same time have an alert and ready mind. If you find this combination for you, it should be only a matter of practice until you successfully fall asleep consciously.

Ah yes, WBTB is a very good method indeed to help you to lucid dream.

However, I found while starting that the best way was to do Reality Checks and keep a Dream Journal. Of course I tried some of the other techniques such as WTB, WILD and MILD (in moderation), I just think it best not to jump in at the deep end.

Ah, thanks a lot. My dream recall seems to be greatly improving just over the past few days. I think it's helping a lot.

I had a lucid dream once a few years ago and never kept trying because my schedule allowed little sleep. I have yet to experience an LD again, but I have a feeling it won't be long.
