Hello everyone. I am a new member as of yesterday afternoon. I just wanted to say hello and tell you a little bit about myself. I am 35 years young..ha and I have been having lucid dreams since I was 15. I never realized what they were until 2 years ago. Its an unfortunate thing that I had to spend almost half my life being scared of what I only needed to embrace. Over the past two years through much research and some experimentation, I have learned to overcome the fear that one may feel while in the lucid state. Unfortunately, there are some exceptions - gut instinct. When I am in a lucid state and my gut is telling me to wake up - I do so without any question. Those are for reasons of my own. I have two things that I feel that you might be interested in - especially if you have never experienced it before. The one thing that USED to scare me more than anything in a lucid dream - was not being able to wake up. I have finally learned how to wake myself up and it works every time. I find something close to me - such as my hand or even a mirror. I tend to look into mirrors alot in my dreams. I am not quite sure why, but when I do and I focus on the reflection whether it is me looking back at myself or not - which is sometimes the case - I will wake up every time. Focusing on ONE object - something close is a guarantee for me that I will wake up. I use my hand more than anything else, becuase my hand is always with me!
So if you are ever interested or if you would like to know more about how I was able to establish this ability please let me know. I will be more than happy to discuss it further. I am looking to learn so much from this site. I want to learn as much as I can.. It seems as though I just can't get enough! Nice to meet you all! - shonda

That's so ironic, given that it seems most of us wish we could prolong our lucid dreams more. I know that when I'm lucid, I always wake up before I'm really ready to.

Hello to you and thanks. I understand what you mean by ironic, but the funny part to this story is that I find it to be so cool (and even in my dream I am thinking to myself - "this is SO COOL!!".. ha ha ) that I tend to do it just because I can... Now that I have overcome the fear ( in most cases) I have gone from focusing on one thing in order to awaken myself to focusing on something to collect detail. Such as my hand for example. When I pull my hand close to me , I position it right in front of my face - extremely close as if to almost touch it.. I look for details - like lines and fingernails and such..even more amazing is when I look into a mirror. I get all excited inside and so anxious to see what the reflection will be for its different most everytime. I know it sounds bizarre, but it is gives me the most amazing feeling. So in respective to the ironicness... all of the curiousity brings me to unintentionally wake myself which leads me to my next objective: Establish a way to be able to appreciate the detail in my dream without waking myself.

I forgot to mention. I am one to have many night terrors - so there are instances that I would prefer to wake up than to ride it out.

      bye!
