Thread: Hello!!! New here! ~^_^~ And also I have a question!

I just found this forum while researching on lucid dreaming. My dad is lucid, he brags about it. I thought he has a rare and special ability or something...(I was really jealous!!!) Then just recently I finally found out the official term for his ability (can you believe none of us actually knew what it's called?) And then I found out anyone can learn it!!! WOOT! HAPPY! And I'm determined to learn it!!! My dad can only realize he's dreaming and make weapons or something appear. He can't change the scene or anything, or he'll wake up. Basicly, he have a dream, realize he's dreaming, decide to follow with it or not, if not then make himself wake up, and fall asleep again. And I want to get pass him so I can change scenes.

Give this newbie (who never had a lucid dream before) some advice on starting.

Also, questions!

1. How clear are lucid dreams? When I have dreams, they are usually really blurry and unclear (maybe I just can't remember clear details...) It feels like I'm watching an old, faded video or something. I read about reality checks, are lucid dreams real enough that you might get it confused with real life???

2. Does being smart have anything to do with it? My dad is pretty smart, he's lucid. Also my friend is very smart and he's also lucid...

Welcome to the site Scarlet! To answer your questions:

1) Lucid dreams are very vivid. If you go lucid...you will know it.

2) Becoming lucid doesn't have anything to do with being smart. I am not an idiot, but I wouldn't consider myself extremely smart and I can lucid dream. It just takes practice...and awareness.

Answer to first question:

Lucid dreams are usually clearer than dreams. Most of the time they can be mistaken for reality and that is where reality checks come in. The second you realize that something is wrong with you or your surrounds do a reality check, chances are you are in a dream.

Answer to second question:

The only thing you need to attain lucidity is strength of mind, willpower, and imagination though intelligence I guess would would be a plus.

Hi, I'm new here! First post yay!

Well let me first tell you that I was able to control my dreams for a few days when I was little. I remember them vividly. In one dream I jumped down a whole flight of stairs. Then for some reason someone came and started strangling me, so (in the dream) I closed my eyes and woke up on my own will. In another dream I was riding a garbage lid and riding through a trail of leaves like on a roller coaster.

I used to be able to close my eyes in the dream and wake up whenever I want, but for the past couple of years I can't even remember my dreams. and I think my dreams are blurry in general.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that I'm very nearsighted? Can I still have vivid lucid dreams even though my eyes are really bad in real life?

And last but not least, what exactly is a lucid dream? I sort of have an idea of what it is from reading the posts, but I just wanna know the definiition.

Scarlet: I agree with the others on both questions. My lucid dreams are usually much more vivid than the non-lucids. A good way to get started would be to start up a dream journal, and maybe read some of the others, so you get a feeling of what others experience when they lucid dream. Some of us have our lucid experiences in color so they are easier to find. Attention to detail and a little familiarity with your dream world is all that's really needed to be just as good at LD'ing as anyone else.

Donnadreamer: I would think that you'd have the potential to see better then you could in waking life, while lucid dreaming. You'd be able to adjust your sight to however you saw fit. I think as long as you have some perception of what 20/20 vision would be you can reach that while you are lucid dreaming.
And lucid dreaming, itself, is simply the act of realizing you're dreaming. It is a bit of an awakening, for most people, and a very intense feeling, in itself. Imagine if I were to tell you right know that you're dreaming. Everything around you is a dream, and you have the opportunity to do whatever you wish and interact with your subconsciousness. That rush of anxiety you'd feel? That's what it's like to become lucid in a dream. What you decide to do with the knowledge that you're dreaming is up to you.

In my experience lucid dreams are incredibly vivid and I have been very confused as to whether I'm awake or asleep. I usually automatically test with a light switch if I'm in doubt. After a while you might start to get clues to the fact you are dreaming - an incredible sense of ease and lightness (ie no physical body to worry about) and colours can seen intensely rich. Sometimes I think I see colours that aren't in the waking reality which interests me a lot. Perception feels more 'whole'

I don't think think IQ has much to do with it. I think everyone has the ability to be lucid.

Donndreamer I did the jumping downstais thing when i was little too - and very nearly ended up trying to do it in waking reality! I remember my Mum getting hold of me before i jumped and me insisting I'd done it before!

Hi, I'm brand new here too, but I would say that your dreams seem unclear mainly because the clarity is one of the first things you lose with the memory of your dream. I think the most important thing is to try and remember your dreams, go over and over them as soon as you wake from one, and if you really think about it, you will probably see that it actually didn't seem unclear at the time you were dreaming it, only when you woke up. Being able to preserve the vividness is a big challenge, because it slips away so fast. Good luck with it!
