      Hi, I've just started :)

I came across this site a few days ago after I had quite a vivid dream, and could remember it almost perfectly, and I'm now Fascinated with this, I've read through the forum on lucid dreaming experiences and I'm really ready to get into it. I read about keeping a dream journal so I wrote down that dream, as my first entry.

Since then I haven't had very good dream recall, I've tried setting my alarm for about 4:00 in the morning, but I often wake up and my mind is blank. Again I wake up in the morning and I still remember either very little or nothing at all. What I do remember feels as if it happened so long ago that there's no point in even trying to recall it further.

Does anyone have any tips on how to improve my dream recall?

      Thanks
      Nick

      1) Don't rely on a loud alarm to wake you up.
      2) Have your DJ near your bed, and don't get up or change your position.
      3) Perhaps close your eyes and tell yourself "i'm dreaming right now"
      4) it's not the end of the world if you can't remember. Don't try pressure yourself, stay relaxed.

      Hope that helps!

Welcome to the forum. It's great that you have chosen to join us. To improve your recall, just keep recording them in your dream journol. This should help over time immensely. Also, check out the tutorials. There are some great ones on almost all aspects of dreaming. I hope you find success while you are with us. Have a nice stay!

Also, try to train your short/long term memory: i.e. What did i have for breakfast this morning?, what was the last movie i saw? what was i thinking about 10 min ago?... etc. If you find it hard to answer this question, you might wanna improve these recalls first!

Hi Nick. Welcome to The DV Forum

Keeping a journal is good. Which you are doing. Many times you wake up after a dream. Also many times you quickly fall back asleep.
A mnemonic technique of repetition before going to bed often can help.
Tell yourself that you will remember to wake up after each dream. Repeat it and as you do think about doing so. So your not just going through the motions.
This will often ignite your conscious mind into an awake state after a dream.
Also. If dream memories come back to you through out the day. Try and write those memories down too.

Hey there and welcome to the forum!

Keeping a Dream Journal is an excellent way to start off. Also, I would maybe recommend before waking up in the morning thinking about it, and not moving. It will sometimes work, but it is better to try it when you don't have to do something the next day! And also, maybe you should try looking at the Tutorials as well, like Gwen said!
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

I don't think she meant you can't help him. She said if you couldn't.....Not everyone has all the answers, nes.

I know, but Splash did not insinuate that you did...But there could have been a remote possibility that you did not, silly. I didn't say you were wrong. I am just saying that I didn't think splash was trying to insult your intelligence.

I am not worried. Splash would never do anything like that on purpose, but I am making it very clear to her that I can help people as well. After being on here over a year, I know how to help people about maybe 10x more than I did a year ago!!

I know, chickie. I think you are good at helping others. DV needs people like you around here.

Thanks a lot....but even though I can help others, I do have a weakness or two as well, and Team work happens to be one of those, among other things.

This is a technique that works really well for me (I'm not sure about other people). For example I wanted to wake up at 5:30 so I could do my english essay, so I repeated the words 'I will wake up at 5:30' a few times. I woke up at 5:36, insted of my usual 8:00 It seems to work very well for recall too.

hehe, yeah that works for me too
However, so far I have only got it to work when I set a more realistic wake up time (in time to go to work in the morning - rather than setting my mental alarm to 5am)

But its really cool how that works. I usually even wake up a minute or 2 before the time I put in my head the previous night. The brain is so precise
