Did you miss your normal dreams then?

Hi! I read about lucid dreaming and I tried it last night...but I somehow couldīt imagine anything and during all night when something started to appear, I think I wanted to control it so much that the vision disappeared.... and now Iīm afraid that I could miss my common dreams, couse they used to be really interesting sometimes....

Did you miss your normal dreams when you became be able to dream lucidly?

Welcome to the forum! Lucidity is something that is hard to attain for some, and when one does attain it, it is hardly possible to LD every night. A lucky person might be able to LD 1-2 times a week, or month. Of course, there is the occasional person who LDs every time they dream, but I don't think that most of us would have any qualms with becoming lucid, as they do not become lucid all of the time. They have plenty of regular dreams, and therefore, don't miss them.

      I agree with Gwendolyn!
Dreaming is natural process. You will continue to dream. Lucid or not!

Yea you will still have many many many normal dreams. Lucid Dreaming takes a long time to master, and even when you do, your mind will do what it needs to do in reguards to dreaming. Every once in a while we get a member who cannot stop lucid dreaming, but tis rare, so enjoy the expeirnce of both lucid and non lucid dreams, you'll be having many of both.

Like Bizzle and Gwen just said, you don't need to worry, Ewanecka, learning to LD won't stop you dreaming normally. In fact, it should do quite the opposite! A large part of the moethods used to induce or increase the frequency of lucid dreams, includes boosting dream recall of all dreams, non-lucid dreams included.

So, as a temptation... If you enjoy having your normal dreams, practicing dream recall and trying to have lucid dreams will actually INCREADE the number of normal dreams you have, or at least, it will increase the number you will remember.

Just to add, you don't need to even worry about this possibility, Ewanecka. These "natural" LD-ers, from what I've read, are pretty much exactly that, "natural". So, if you're not one of them already, then you don't need to worry about becoming one through practice... (if that makes sense...?)

In short, no matter how good you get at LD-ing, you don't need to worry about loosing your "normal" dreams, you'll never lose them. In fact, not only will you still get/remember them, but perhaps even more than you did before if you practice dream recall!

Stephen LaBerge talked about his concern over this very issue once he started LDing routinely. The result was that his LDs immediately stopped.

It takes effort and discipline to attain LDs - and, as I'm finding out, remembering them. (I've "lost" at least three LDs this past week.) From my experience and others who are kind enough to share their experiences, though, you're likely going to WANT to LD as much as possible once you get into it and start exercising some control.

Would I do it every night if I could? Yep. Would I want EVERY dream to be lucid? Probably not... but considering I have at least five or six dreams each night, there will always be plent of room for both.

When I began lucid dreaming, there was a period of time of about three years that I did not have a normal dream. I didn't even miss them at first. After a couple of years or so I began saying to people, 'I think I've messed up my dreams.' and I would kind of worry. Deep down, however, I loved every minute of my newfound playground in my head. I think this was just a reaction to my mind being excited by the idea, because I have since began dreaming normally again. I usually only lucid dream when I try to.
However, I do still have the ability to do anything in every dream, lucid or not...

this could maybe lessen the difference between the two ways of dreaming... and make it easier to lose a dream if not "catched" well, because one becomes too "used" to be "able to do anything"...
at least, for me it's a little so...
but it doesn't sound "bad" at all... I mean, it's pointless but fun anyway!

      Aye.
Flying around the room USED to be a reality check for me. Now, when I fly into the air, it just feels normal. I miss out on some lucid dreams this way. But I have plenty of them anyway.

I have to agree with gwendolyn and the others that once you start having LD's frequently that you don't usually want to stop. I can't always control when I have an LD, but I can control when I don't have one. I've went to be before and just told myself that I wanted to sleep and not have an LD, and not once has it failed me yet. I just have normal dreams, some of which I remember and some I don't.

If I could LD everytime I slept, i doubt I would miss normal dreams too much. Especially since when I LD I don't usually like to control the environment, I just like to play in the playground that my mind has created. It's very facinating and fun to do that.
