dream recall, dont feel like im in my dreams

hey, i just have a couple questions... It says on the site that to remember your dreams you should wake up in the middle of the night and focus and then write them down. that works well and if i do that i can easily remember my dreams. but am i supposed to be getting somewhere with that. if i practice will i be able to not have to wake in the middle of the night and focus on remembering my dreams???

also how am i supposed to question the world around me in my dreams. i dont really feel like im in my dreams. i mean i am a character in them but i rarely feel like im doing things in my dreams. i just remember them if i really try to.

i did have a wild by accident one night... i think... so should i just stick to that technique.

the most important is the 1st question. please answer...

      Welcome to the forum!

Do you currently keep a dream journal? If not, you can try to improve your recall that way first, before trying waking up in the middle of the night. Keeping a journal will help train your mind to remember dreams so you can write them down. Check out this dream recall tutorial for more recall suggestions.

Also, you can learn how to effectively do reality checks by recognizing your common dreamsigns. For instance, one of my common dreamsigns is not being able to dial a phone properly, which also happens in real life sometimes. So anytime I experience this, I do an automatic reality check. My favorite reality check is comparing a wall clock with my wristwatch. The time usually doesn't match if I'm dreaming, and I become lucid. Check out the reality check tutorial for some ideas.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask! Good luck and have fun!

ya but... i do have a dream journal and when i wake up in the middle of the night i write down my dreams.. and i can do this easilly but what do u mean by "Do you currently keep a dream journal? If not, you can try to improve your recall that way first, before trying waking up in the middle of the night" do you mean just wake up in the morning and write in my dream journal... cuz i do that too.

im just wondering if itll get me n e where. like if i keep writing in my dream journal every night at 5 o clock and 9 o clock and i keep practicing a lot will i be able to just remember my dreams when i wake up...

Some people's recall improves by just keeping a dream journal. But if you're still having problems, you can try the waking up in the middle of the night to see if you can get better recall that way. Basically, everyone's different, so you need to try different things and see what works best for you. Also, don't drink alcohol, or smoke (green) before bed - which will inhibit your ability to remember dreams. Some people like to take supplements to help improve recall, but I've never found it necessary - most times I think it causes the placebo effect.
