      First experience

Hi everyone. I’m so glad I found this site. After doing some reading here I decided to try MILD. In my first dream, I dreamt that I was trying to LD but then I woke up in my dream (false awakening)? I tried to get back into that dream but could not. After that I had two more dreams where, at the end, I knew I was dreaming. However, by then they were almost over and I was already almost conscience. How can you avoid waking up when you know you’re dreaming?

it's different for everybody, but basically you have to remain as calm as possible (the rush you get when you realise you're lucid is enough to wake you up)

also try to focus on something, like find your hand at stare at it...sometimes a technique like that can lock you into the dream

others try spinning or a myriad of verbal commands...you just have to work it out for yourself with practice to find out what works best for you...good luck!

I'm not all that sure but when I had my first LD (way back in 3rd grade) I was so happy to realize that I wasn't at school and it was all just a dream. So happy that I started jumping on tables and running around the room! Just find something else to do before the excitement builds up.

Thanks for the welcome and the replies. Last night I had another one. It was wierd, part of me knew it was a dream and part of me didn't believe it. I remember at the end, I tried looking at my hand (remembering what had been suggested,) but I could not see my hand at all for some reason. I tried really hard to bring back the dream but I was already waking up at that point and couldn't go back to sleep. It was quite a rush though!

      Hi!
I'm Luci (and I'm lucid 8) ), new here. It's funny, I was reading my psychology textbook and they're were talking about lucid dreaming (interesting!) so I googled it and this was the first site that popped up and after some reading I realised that I have had a few LD's before: mostly when something was happening that I didn't like at all such as spiders crawling all over my body (brrr) but then I would suddenly think to myself: "stupid idiot, what are you doing? your dreaming for cryin' out loud, you can stop it whenever you want!" and then I would wake up. Before coming here however, I always thought that I had just awoken from a dream but that I would keep on dreming the dream while being awake (ok, that does not really sound logical, back then it was!) So it's really cool to find out that I realised I was actually dreaming
I guess now I have to do those reality checks and keep a dream journal! At least I already remember my dreams almost every morning, saves time I guess!
And finally a question: I know this is VERY personal and is thus not mentioned on the site, but how long does it take? Should I be thinking weeks, months or years here? Because I have no clue whatsoever... Thanks!

i dont think you should rush ahead and think how long it takes, in stead take it day by day, practising. When you get, you get it, take your time. It varies for EveryONE!! lol, im practising my dream recal right now, i once had a journal but stoped, and now im starting again.
      Goals:
[]Find Dream Guide [] LD at least twice by the end of the month []Fly [] Learn how to talk in dreams [] Ride a cloud

No, I know you shouldn't rush this, I guess I'm just someone who likes to now how long things will take so I can set my mind to it, you know? But if there really is no answer then I'll just accept that and practise! Thanks anyway
