      hiya :]

I'm obviously new to the whole lucid dreaming part, but I already have a little experience in dream interpretation (as in, I've had dreams analyzed and I've picked up a little on it)

Okay, from readin a bit here and there, I've picked up that I often have lucid dreams... kinda? I usually find myself in a dream (I just know its a dream, somehow) and I can consciously (or its seemingly conscious) think about the dream, about whats going on and what I know I could do, but I can't seem to get into control of anything more than my thoughts. I find I can sometimes influence the decisions of myself, but I can't directly control them.

Any clue to what's goin on here?

Seems your brain is trying to convince you you are not dreaming when you really are. At least that's what it sounds like ot me. It doesn't sound like a bad thing if you want to be a dream walker, just enjoy the dream and see what happens. If you want to control your dreams, then you have to convince yourself that it is a dream and that you are the architect of what happens.

      Welcome Erf.
It sounds like your mind may be putting limitations on what it thinks it can do. You will soon realize that you can set the limits. Someone in this forum said "You where the pants in your dreams"

      Welcome to the forum Erf!

It seems like you are only a small way away from being able to have lucid dreams, and it sounds to me like what the others said may be whats going on.

      Welcome
These are the tears that I dream about...

well, I understand (more or less) exactly what a dream is, and I know its merely the mind that creates it, and I know I can control that... but in practice my mind takes a back seat to it all?

well, lucid dreaming isn't my goal, I actually want to stop it... like I kinda said, I'm more into dream analysis, I want my dreams to be uninhibited by well... myself! (in which my own suggestions are unwanted)

Although I gotta admit this is all very new, and interesting, to me... I might just have to trade nights between analysis and lucidity :]

      I can't believe there isn't a single banana yet!

Here ya go Erf! You have to be welcomed the right way! (Though LC probably wore it completely out that other time.)

Yea I would suggest you learn how to go lucid. Having control means that you can control whether or not you want to conciously guide your dreams. To assure you I can choose to reliquish my lucidity if I should find myself lucid in a dream. It's quite easy. Plus sometimes regular dreams get boring.

I can see the importance of trying to recall your dreams more frequently as being an important part of being lucid, but what is the purpose of the journal?
Whenever I wake up with memory of a dream, I quickly replay the dream over and over, aiding my memory in conscious storage.. is that enough?

As for the reality check thing, is it possible to simply pay attention to consistancy? Like... if I'm somewhere and I'm suddenly somewhere else, there's no consistancy, there was no middle ground.

See writing it down is important because it is more impressionable. IMO at least. Also, you won't remember it in the long term and it's fun to read about your dreams from a year ago.

Welcome Erf!!!! I am also interested in dream analysis but have not looked too much into it. I could see how being lucid in your dream would may not be the best for analysis. For me I don't have LD's every night even though I may want to... so if I were so inclined I could work on analyzing my dream on my non-lucid nights! I think it would be great for you to learn both. The more we know the better! Plus how fun would it be for you to have a dream world where you could do whatever you wanted.

As for dream journals... I find sometimes if I don’t write it down RIGHT AWAY (even though I may remember it clearly) I will forget parts! I have gone back and read my journal and found dream i no longer remember and it is very fun!

Anyway... I hope you at least have fun here. I would love to hear about your dream analysis ideas!

Why would remembering dreams really have any effect on lucid dreaming?

Because if you have a lucid dream and can't remember it, then what is the point?

It also helps your mind adjust to the fact that dreams are important, thus you have a higher chance of being aware during dreams. But what Aphius said is completely right, remembering dreams is the first step to LDing.

      WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!

It is important that you remember your dreams so you can find your different dream signs. For example, there are people that go through their dreams and realize things that happen often. I remember that Seeker once said that one of his dream signs was driving under a completely clear sky. When you encounter one of these dream signs, you can perform a reality check and become lucid.
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...
