      I Dream in 3rd person

it's wierd. I usually just watch myself doing stuff. Is this normal? Instead, of watching through my eyes, i just watch myself. I just had a dream yesterday, that i was in pirate times(just watched Pirates of the carribean. Awesome btw!) and sword fighting some dude. And i was just watching myself. It was like a TV show.

It's "normal" for some people. Personally, I can only remember one or two dreams in my entire life that had a 3rd person view, and even in those cases it was only for brief parts of the dream. But I've seen plenty of other people report that they usually dream in 3rd person.

but wouldn't it take away from the feeling of lucid dreaming?

It happens to me when im dream skating, in a way it is handy becouse i can see my flaws
      (go backside lipslide go! )
It doesnt take away anny feelings becouse you still feel all the sensations, the wind in your hair and stuff.
Its all there really, you feel like its yourself but just from a distance so personally i dont find it troublesome.

It just depence on what you prefer really, i can see why some would find it troublesome.

Yeah, I dream around about 80 in the first person, and 20% in the third. Of my third person dreams, I'm usually a disembodied camera. Like, there's DCs doing stuff, but im just watching them, im not "in" the dream. Sometimes, though, I AM one of the DCs, but, I'm seeing myself in the third person.

      I think i know why

I use to dream all in 3rd person, and then i stopped playing video games and my dreams are now in 1st person. So i think that playing games that allow you to control a world in 3rd person or wathcing enough TV where the camera is always following the world causes you to dream in 3rd person.

Now my question to you is when you dream like i use to do you have control over what your doing (not in the lucid way but in the way so its like you were that person)?

PM me if you want so we can continue conversation.

Yes, it happens to me a lot, except, at times, I am not really the person that I am viewing. I usually view other fantasy characters, etc. It gets annoying at times.

Has anyone ever had an LD in 3rd person before? That'd be so interesting. I think I've become aware that I was dreaming for brief periods of time while I was the 3rd person 'camera' but it never lasted That said, once I had a dream in 1st person, and then the camera zoomed out to 3rd as I exploded in a trashcan

Similar to what The Blue Meanie said, about 70% of my dreams are 1st person, and about 30% are 3rd person. Never any 2nd person, that would be very odd. Most 3rd person dreams I have are from a 'floating-view' or a security camers-view, similar to watching a movie or playing a 3rd-person video game.

And to Englerj, I have had 3rd person lucid dreams before. I was too busy escaping my nightmares to enjoy it, however.

When I was younger, I dreamed in 3rd person somethimes, but not now. Perhaps you do it after playing 2 much WoW.

Your Dreams, and your Dream Persona are now in their most Primitive State. Your Waking Self has not enough integration with the Dream Persona to even be able to share the First Person orientation of consciousness.

From the Third Person Perspective you would have no control at all over the choices or responses that fall entirely to the Dream Persona. Without any tension within the Dream Persona from the Waking Self, it is unlikely that there could ever be a Lucid Dream.

Well, unless the Third Person Point of Consciousness went Lucid, but then any influence that Lucidity would have toward integrating the Waking and the Dreaming Personalities would be nill, since the two are separate.

Young dreamers suffer this condition, Third Person Dreaming, more than older dreamers. What I suppose might be happening is that Younger Dreamers who do have First Person Dreams are offended and embarrassed by the inevitable Naked In the Middle of Town Square Dream, and so they retreat into Third Person Dreams. They are hesitant to step forward into their own Dreams. Or they have had Nightmares that have scared them.

Now, sometimes even an experienced dreamer will have a Third Person Dream, but it often comes as a Vision. One is meant to See something. For example, I had just met an Oracle Goddess within a Dream and immediately after She had made Her pronouncement, I was zooped off to where I witnessed a Story unfold -- from the Third Person Perspective... so I could catch the details of the Story and not accidentally disturb the action or the outcome of what I was only intended to witness.

So, to have occassional Dream Visions from the 3rd Person would be healthy enough. But to be totally lacking the 1st Persona Experience is to be stunted at the most primitive level. One should resolve to get over one's embarrassment about being Naked in Public, or resolve not to be so afraid to the point of incapacity from Nightmares, and insist to one's Dream Mind that one be allowed to participate directly from within the Dreamer.

One can not do any serious Dream Work until one is tagged up with the Dream Persona.
