      Agency in LD's

      The LD went like this:

I looked at the title of a book on my nightstand, and I remembered previously reading that the title would change in a dream if i looked away, but it did not change and told my mom that it was useless, that I would never have a LD. Then something weird happened, she started to salsa dance with me and thats when I knew it was a dream because something that absurd would never happen. I wanted to throw fireballs, (I read in posts that people did this) but failed, and I tried to fly, but merely glided. I guess I was so excited I woke up.

      Questions:

Why couldn't I throw fireballs or fly? Is it becuase I was a bit skeptical in my dream? I thought it would violate physical laws, and perhaps having this doubt in a dream affected the outcome.

More importantly is the question of agency in a LD. Does one have to practice how to control a LD and the actions and to what ends in which they take place? Will I be able to manipulate the LD after practicing control in other LD's?

Will the frequency of having LD's increase after having this one? I have been keeping a dream journal since early June, and maybe its finally starting to work in that I can now remember when I dream, causing me to remember LD's especially.

Well, that's sort of like flying -- at least it's something you can't do in real life.

That's pretty common, especially if you haven't had many LDs before. Don't worry about it, you'll learn to stay calm and keep the dream going for longer periods.

I'd say that's very likely. One of the most important things in controlling your dreams is to have the utmost confidence that what you want to happen, will happen.

As to your other questions, yes, you should get better with practice, and LDs should come more easily now that you've "broken the ice" and know what to expect -- but it still will require dedication on your part. They usually won't just happen automatically.

Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.

I've had the same problem that you've had in regards to flying, especially in non-lucid dreams. I have a tendency to go up, and then just glide down until I'm back on the ground. It can be kind of frustrating, but the trick is really not to think about it. Just go and jump in the air and fly or however you choose to go. There's a tutorial on several methods that people have used to fly, but the main thing is just doing it and not spending time thinking about how you could fail

You'll get better at it and become lucid more often. Just keep working at it!
