      Hey all,

I've been experimenting with lucid dreaming off and on for maybe 3 or 4 years. I've probably successfully had about half a dozen or so that I can remember. Often I drift away from it as I get lazy about the practice of maintaining a dream journal, but I'm getting back into it now and am serious about keeping up with it.

One of the problems I'm having now is dream recall. Last night I did considerably better, remembering four dreams, but the past week I've always been able to remember at least one, but often only one, and those are often fleeting. Usually when I pick up the practice of keeping a dream journal again my recall improves dramatically, but it doesn't seem to be happening this time. Sometimes I try affirmations, telling myself to remember dreams, but it's always been hard for me to keep that up. My mind doesn't seem to want to repeat the same thing to myself over and over again.

I'm also finding that I'm having a lot of dreams where I'm watching a movie or television show, and it can be tough to pick that up as a dream sign. Perhaps it shouldn't be for me because I don't watch television at all anymore (I don't even have service at the moment) and haven't been watching movies all that much lately. But sometimes as I'm writing down these dreams it's frustrating how mundane they are.

Anyway, I am an aspiring writer, and sometimes I feel lacking for inspiration for subject matter... when I find a subject that sparks my imagination I can be a very good writer, but I get blocked a lot. So one of my main goals is to use dreams for creative inspiration.

I expect I'll be spending considerable time on these boards now that I've found it. Hopefully I'll have some great experiences to share with you all.

Hi there, SoulSearcher Glad you found the forum!

Your recall really doesn't seem THAT bad - I mean, you're still remembering at least once dream per night. Recall comes and goes a lot - just ask anyone on this forum. Nothing to get weirded out about - that's just how it goes. Continue to write down everything in your dream journal, and practice your affirmations about remembering your dreams.

I think dreaming about watching TV or a movie would be a great dreamsign! I mean, it's something you can do in real life, so anytime you are watching TV or a movie, do a reality check. Maybe do one at regular intervals the whole time you're watching it. Pick a good reality check that works for you - check out the reality check tutorial for some good ideas, and here's a good thread about doing quality reality checks.

Please feel free to post any other questions you may have. Good luck with your writing - I'm sure you'll find plenty of inspriration here (be sure to check out the Off-Topic forums as well).

      Good luck and have fun!

Yeah, I guess it's not that bad... I guess I've got to be patient. I had another dream where I was watching a TV show last night... Some weird dream about how Scully and Mulder from the X-Files are trying to help a bat boy... straight out of the Weekly World News. Actually one dream sign is when it appears like I'm watching a show but then I suddenly become part of it, because soon enough I was trying to help the poor bat boy from getting caught (and find his mother&#33.

Another opportunity for a reality check! If you start getting used to doing them when you're watching TV in real life, it will carry over into your dreams. You just have to be consistent and do good, quality reality checks.

Only problem is, I don't watch television anymore. I guess that should be even more of a clue that I'm dreaming... these days I only watch television in my dreams!
