Hey Chris,
My name's Rob. I'm new here too so I'm just running around the Newbie section posting like crazy. Your questions were REALLY good! I have had many lucid dreams and I still can't figure out exactly why so many of them have high school characters! It seems that every third night I dream of them, in particular a bully character from year five to year ten, although he is hardly ever a bully in my dreams. There are three or so other regulars.
"High School Characters" was actually my first "dream trigger" to let me know I was dreaming. Other triggers have since become more prominent and I rarely realise I'm dreaming with these highschool characters anymore. I think I might re-invest some more energy in dealing with them and become lucid so I can just straight up ask them (him in particular) why they feature so heavily in my dreams. This is easier said than done as it takes a lot of very clear awareness... but you've inspired me!
As to whether Lucid Dreaming has changed my Waking Life... abso-freaking-lutely! I have had chronic pain for over three years in most of body so I had to stop work and just about stop life. Then I remembered my old passion from my teenage years- Lucid Dreaming- and put what little energy I had left into achieving it again. When I did (achieve lucidity), I was rapt with joy, I had direction! And what divine, spiritual and dynamic direction it is! There is always more to learn and experience in your dream world, and it is quite arduous and difficult work, which in turn is the most rewarding (at least in my life time).
I have not even gotten to the stage where I have consciously decided to try and heal myself in the dream, even though this is foremost on my mind in waking life (that's why the "open heart surgery task" really intrigues me)... that's how awesome it is. Far better than any anti-depressant, illegal drug or sleeping pill available in this physical existence!
Nice to meet you.
Dae,
Rob.
