Well, in essense, a Wake Back To Bed technique is a WILD (a Wake Initiated Lucid Dream).

The abbreviation "WILD" refers to wake initiated lucid dreams in general, where as WBTB (Wake Back To Bed), the Hypnagogic Imagery Technique and others are techniques - methods of achieving a WILD.

Hope that helps and good luck if you decide to attain lucidity via WILDs. ^_^

Hey, Lyla and NocturnalGent. Welcome to DV.

Basically, a WILD is a lucid dream that you go straight into, from the waking state. This usually refers to one that you start at the beginning of your sleep cycle. For this reason, they're usually much harder to do, as you have to get a little further into your sleep cycles to cross into your REM periods, which is when you start dreaming.
WBTB, on the other hand, implies having woken up, sometime during the night, stayed up for a little while while setting the intention on having a lucid dream, and then going back to bed. Doing this, you're going back to sleep, hopefully, within or around one of your REM cycles, which should make recalling the dream and attaining lucidity, much easier.

But Merlock was right. WILD means you flowed into the dream from the waking state. WBTB is just one of the methods for making that happen.

I think get it... I was confused because in the "The Five Phases of WILD" tutorial, waking up for some time and then going back to sleep (right in a dream) was included and that sounded exactly like WBTB to me...SO, if i understood right, it means that WILD is not necessarilly done after waking up for a few hours and after WBTB, you can try WILD? I hope i got this right...

Well, "WILD" isn't a technique but nonetheless people usually use that abbreviation to imply the Hypnagogic Imagery Technique, which is the standard and original technique for achieving a WILD.

So yes, technically, a WILD through hypnagogic imagery can be achieved at any time and a WILD through the wake back to bed technique concentrates on achieving a WILD after waking up in the middle of the night.
