I don't know if i'm posting this in the right place, but it's a newbie type question to me
When i read about LD for the first time and i've been very optimistic about it all, which is very very strange for me cause i'm the most pessimistic person i know...(my mom even told me that, and she got to meet lots of ppl). Anyway, this is the the 2nd week i'm writing in my dream journal, and ntg.......I tried WILD twice but completely unsuccessful - didn't see anythong. I do reality checks about 4 times a day, when i remember or see something strange. I tell myself i will remember my dreams in the morning beofre i fall asleep, but my dreams are always very unclear...I think i did an RC in my dream yesterday, but it was succesful - i could see my hands very clearly, ntg strange happened when i jumped up a and down and there was ntg to read around so my dream carried on normally
I just feel i'm not talented..i know that LD is something learnable...but even in the case of learnable things you have to have a bit talent...
So, was it this hard for you?
Thanks if you can help this poor discouraged dreamer!

8 Months+.
Did that discourage you more?

PS: An attitude like that tends to kill your chances. Brighten up, go for it!

Thanks for your answers!
And, TweaK, it didn't discourage me! Actually, made a little more optimistic, i actually got discouraged when i read how fast other people got their lucid dreams and by 90% per cent of my friends who have LD-s and don't even know that they're aclled that way.

Lyla,

It took me nearly a month to have an LD after discovering this site (before that I didn't know lucid dreaming existed).

You are off to a good start if you are doing RCs and keeping a dream journal.

And to have done an RC in a dream (even if unsuccessful) is a really big deal, in my opinion. That is a definite step toward lucidity

I started getting discouraged myself after a few weeks with no success. I was even to the point where I thought LDing was BS, and that everyone here was having a good time making things up to impress everyone else. (Sorry...it's true )

Then suddenly I ended up in a dream with one of my common dream signs, and it suddenly hit me "Holy Cow!! I'm in a dream!" It was the most amazing feeling. And I have had many more since then. Feel free to read my dream journal.

So don't despair. It's worth the effort. Plus, dream journals are fun to reread even when the dreams aren't lucid.

And this site is full of good info that should help you. (No...most is not BS )

Good luck,

Twoshadows

Fully, I'm with both Tweak and Twoshadows... doing a reality check in a dream is a huge deal and two weeks of trying is a very short time indeed. I am almost reluctant to tell you how long it took me; you may have been able to withstand a blow like 8 months, but how about 8 years?! Now-a-nights though there is a lot more awareness and resources (like this awesome site) that can speed up the process, but it is a process- everything happens at the right time, even when it sems like it isn't- I'm pretty sure of this.

If you haven't already, watch, "Waking Life" (I had my first the night I watched that movie! It's my fav), "What the Bleep do We Know," and chuck in some "Matrix" action (if you are one of the few that hasn't already) and then check out some "Anamatrix" action... there's a scene in that movie that is so much like a lucid dream it's not funny, it's beautiful.

Good luck. Oh, and dream journaling is pretty much key.

Dae,

Rob.

P.S. Your 'ego' might not think it is talented, or it may know that it is because it keeps you down thinking you're not. YOU are a spiritual being having a human experience, not the other way around... and it takes a lot of "talent" to incarnate in aphysical form... be assured, you have a great purpose here on Earth, in this life. One of the greatest things (in my opinion) about Lucid Dreaming is that you have the opportunity to find out more about this "purpose"... ask and you shall recieve.

Wow! Thanks so much! U can really cheer someone up! I'm feeling a bit more confident now!

I had moments when i felt like that guy in "The Truman Show"...
And, Daen, thanks a lot for the movie recommendations! Somebody else recommended "Waking life" too, but the other one "What the Bleep do We Know" i haven't heard of. I'll rewatch "Matrix" too, i really liked that movie, though i've just seen the first part.
So, thanks again everyone!

8 years? You knew about LDing for 8 actual years before you got one or what? Because if we're talking about not-knowing about lucid dreaming, I havn't had a lucid dream in nearly 16 years.

Oh and one more thing. LDing is not just pure luck. As long as you keep trying, you WILL get there, for one person it just takes a bit longer than for others.

Yep, 8 years! Granted I didn't have any good techniques, I was young and I had absolutely no one to talk to about it (and I have a lot of 'discipline issues' which I am gradually overcoming), but now I'm having at least one a week. So, I just bless the journey (which is much easier in hindsight of course- but that's the game).

Hi Lyla! I'm somewhat new to Lucid Dreaming as well, so I'm going through many of the things you are.

About a year ago I had a dream which really spooked me, and a week after that I had a really enjoyable dream; none of them lucid however. They were such powerful dreams, though, and at the time I truly believed I didn't dream anymore!

I tried keeping a dream journal, but for the first six months I remembered nothing, I swear. After those long months I started recalling more dreams, mostly because the simple act of trying to remember dreams in the morning. This practice makes the mind form a habit of prioritizing dreams to remember in the morning, something the majority of people's minds don't do without practice. After about 3 more months, I FINALLY had a lucid dream!!! All that time IS worth it.

I honestly think that what makes so-called "natural" lucid dreamers is the ability to recall dreams well. Many people have been remembering dreams since childhood, so they've already made the habit of waking and recalling. Another thing I have noticed is that people who share dreams, or even talk about what dreams they'd like to have, tend to remember dreams more. Dreams are a very personal thing, and talking about them with real people leaves a lasting impression, in my experience. Talking to people on this forum should really help!

Dream Recall is the hardest part. Seriously: focus EVERY bit of attention you have on remembering your dreams. Before bed, don't even think about LDs, think about some way to remember your dreams only. Dream Recall is what talent plays a role in; some people have been doing it for years, so they DO have an advantage there. However, once you finally remember your dreams (which in my case took six months...) lucid dreaming will come very easy, I promise.

Heck, after a year now I'm STILL focusing on trying to develop dream recall more than LDs, and I've definately made progress. You must keep in mind that dream recall is a habit. Right now, it sounds as if you are in the habit of NOT remembering dreams, although that doesn't mean you can't. The only way to get rid of any bad habit, is to replace it with a good habit.

Lucid dreaming is one of many end-results possible with good dream recall (and IMHO the very best). You gotta get a good foundation, and then the harder parts will be all the easier.

I did some stuff on Lucid dreaming a few years ago and for memory I might have had one LD, maybe none, it was so long ago. I think the few LDs I've ever had have been natural ones, but I hope to change that now I've gotten back into this as of a couple of days ago.

That's talent.

You are talented at getting in and having a go. If you had all the talent of LDing in the world it would mean very little if you didn't have the motivation to recognise it and give it a go. I don't think you really need any natural 'talent' to do it. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get there. Keep it up!
