I've got bruxism (just means that I grind my teeth while I sleep). Does anyone know if this can effect one's ability to dream lucidly? Even better, is there anyone else with bruxism that has any insight?

No idea, how did you find out you grind your teeth in your sleep?

When I was a child I would grind my teeth. Apparently I got over it, with no residual problems.

However, just in case there may be problems for yourself, simply pay attention to your ordinary dreams.

Many people on the Path of Lucid Dreaming, and not having much luck at it, completely ignore their ordinary dreams, though they may well be providing a great deal of guidance concerning exactly what may be the reservations influencing the Dream Mind into withholding Lucid Dreaming.

It is mostly illusory to believe that the conscious self has so much control, when, ultimately speaking, it is the Higher Dream Mind that decides whether or not one goes Lucid, or even whether or not one has simple Dream Recall.

      Hey guy,

Just a week ago I went to my Osteopath and said, "I can barely take these TMJ pains anymore. I have been wearing a splint (a guard you put in your mouth when you sleep) for a while now but it seems to be getting worse."

Surprisingly she said, to "throw it away" referring to my $1000 (Australian) piece of oral hardware. Apart from it interfering with ones biomechanical structure it does not actually treat the root of the problem. That root she suggests is anxiety, over-thinking and stress. She gave me a simple mantra to use each night as I fall asleep.

"I sleep with a relaxed jaw." That's it. I don't know if it is because I have worked with hypnosis before or not but the old familiar pain around my jaw, face and neck is just about completely gone! So, what a synchronicity that as my pain abetted you asked for help. She says that 90% of people who clench or grind their teeth have success in relieving the problem with that mantra!

      Sleep well,

      Rob.

Yeah, apparently I grind my teeth so badly while I sleep that it makes a strange noise (freaked my mum right the hell out the first time she heard it).

Anyways, thanks a lot for the responses. I'll definitely try that mantra out.

      Hi PatternJuggler,
I also grind (used to grind I hope) my teeth. I've been having lucid dreams for a week now (on purpose anyway) and the second thing I do when I realize I'm lucid is tell myself to relax my jaw, the first is to relax my back (many problems with it too). So I know that at least in my case it does not interfere what-so-ever. I am going to try that mantra, hopefully I won't have to wait till I'm lucid to relax my jaw. Thanks.
