I can't say I'm the best at introducing myself, as I am quite a shy person, but I'll try the best I can. My name is Brian, I'm fifteen, and I live in British Columbia of Canada. (Yes, I am Canadian) I suppose I could describe myself as a studious teenager who isn't a great athlete at all. In fact, I daresay I barely got a B in PE last year. I like a lot of things, such as video games, movies, and books, but also dislike a lot of things, such as skateboarding, what's "hot" at school, and when people say "kewl".

I've heard about lucid dreaming about a month ago, and decided to take a shot at it four days ago. I'm developing on my dream recall, and I really can't complain, because the journey is as fun as the objective, you know? Typically, I remember about half a dream every night, though I'm not sure if I'm doing well or not. I guess everyone has their own pace at everything. I realize I've still a long ways to go, but I guess patience can be rewarding.

I'll try to visit on a regular basis, but school's starting for me in a week. I can't wait for my computers class, but I'm going to miss the free time. I hope that I'll have a great time on this message board!

P.S.: What I don't quite understand is why, even though I lay in my bed for what seems to me like hours, I don't feel like I'm falling asleep at all. When does sleep begin to take place? Is it as soon as you lie down on your bed, or as soon as you desire to sleep, or what?

      Welcome Brian!

Keeping a Dream Journal has been extremely helpful for my Dream Recall. So I think that is an important place to start. If you are already remembering parts of dreams each night, then you are ahead of a lot.

Another thing that helps me as far as Recall goes, is if I ever wake up at night, I have trained myself to think about what I was dreaming about. If it is something worthwhile I jot it down on a piece of paper. If it isn't that exciting, I'll think about it for just a minute, and that is often enough for me to remember it in the morning. Then of course, as soon as I'm awake, I'll scribble a few key words on paper until I have more time to do my Dream Journal. Using this method I was able to remember 12 different dreams from last night--my best recall ever.

      Good Luck!

      Welcome to the Forum!
Keep it up with that dream journal, you're on the right track - my recall has improved thanks to my DJ.
Did you read the tutorials? Here's a link http://www.dreamviews.com/tutorials.php.
And before you go to sleep, you should try to relax, maybe that will help you fall asleep easier .

As waves of plastic fame go out of fashion, You're going out (going out) forever unknown. These waves of plastic fame go out of fashion, You're going out (going out) forever unknown.

From above a rain of ashes descends anathema. I will remain, forever will remain. From below, in my seclusion, look up to the sky to see See paper wings and watch them burn.

In my opinion skateboarding is a little too numerical. Even though angles are ridicuously easy to understand, geometry/trigonometry + sports = a little too weird

And I'm so happy, because last night I remembered two dreams! Not two whole dreams of course, but I'm satisfied.

Welcome to the board. I personally feel that skateboarding is rather lame, it's not quite that extreme. One thing that helps me to remember my dreams is to try and feel that dream feeling while trying to remember them and also start at a place in the dream that I already remember pretty well and think about the cause and effect of that part of the dream to move to the end and beggining of the dream.

I do that quite often, in fact, I think of my dreams as a big jigsaw puzzle, and rearrange them when I have the time.

Well, I think I'm going to do dream recall one more day, and then move onto a combination of induction and recall. I'm not expecting über-results or anything, but this might get me a little used to a daily habit of RCing.

      Hello! Great avatar!

You sound like you're really making good progress on the recall! I don't think you'll have any problems learning to lucid dream if you continue working so hard.

As for falling asleep, it seems a LOT of people have a hard time falling asleep quickly, while a LOT of people also fall asleep within seconds. How or why, I dunno, but there are a lot of great topics that discuss it... such as:

      http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/inde...howtopic=37076

      http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/inde...howtopic=36940

      http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/inde...howtopic=36533 - I like this one

      http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/inde...howtopic=36845

I myself am convinced that there are only two things needed for good lucid dreams: good focus (reality checks) & good sleep (falling asleep quick and staying asleep). Lucid dreaming is a natural ability that is lost in society, I think.

Oh its nothing really. I just used GIMP to crop and resize the link in my signature. Is yours based on Street Fighter, perhaps? I'm not too sure.

But anyway, thanks. I'm glad to know that nobody bites in this message board, unlike a couple board I know =P

Oh yeah Castlevania! I knew that guy rang a bell somewhere.

Anyway, last night I also remembered two dreams, and an iota of a third one, which kinda involved the internet I was too sleepy that night however, so I didn't bother to write them down. I'm so horrible, lol.

Does it help if you have an alarm clock set 6 hours ahead from your estimated sleep time? 'Cause I usually wake up spontaneously if the alarm clock is even within 5 feet of my bed, and kinda zone out, if you know what I mean. I might try the water method, but I dunno how reliable that one really is. What if I wake up right at an NREM stage or something?
