Let me introduce myself, my name is Matt, I come from NSW, Australia, and just found this website yesterday after being showed by a member on a skateboard forum called Casualtie, who is also a member on here. So after seeing and reading about this yesterday I was keen to start! So I read I needed to develop my dream recall, and started doing RL's for the rest of the day anyway. When I went to bed I organised a dream journal next to my bed and went to sleep. I woke up a few times during the night and recorded my dreams. All up I had 3 dreams which I remembered perfectly. I was amazed, I never remember dreams, beforehand I was lucky to remember one! I suppose thinking about dreaming before I went to sleep helped alot! Anyways, I started an online journal on this site here in the Journal Forum. Now, how many dreams a night should I be remembering well before I try a lucid dream? And when I dream, I like dont remember being in the dream or feeling the dream or controlling it or anything, but when I wake up I remember exactly what happened in it... its strange because its sort of like remembering watching a movie or something. Anyway, what do I do next? Ill keep developing my dream recall, but for how long? And when can i try a LD and how do i try it? because when i dream nowi have no control or anything so i dont know how id try a reality check. arrggh it seems havin an LD will be really hard! i would of tried a RL last night ig i cud of but its not like im in the dream, grr so hard to explain

      Welcome on Board!

Don't get too frustrated though, you will progress at your own pace. All you can do is study up on methods, keep up your journal and keep up those reality checks.

      It does get easier

LOL, ExoByte, that was pretty random!

Anyway, welcome to the forum, long jetty! I'm glad Casualtie referred you here!

Starting the DJ is definitely a good first step, and it sounds like you've have success with recall so far, too! Nice work. There's not really a cut-and-dried set amount of dreams you have to recall each night before attempting to LD, but a good rule of thumb is recalling at least one dream per night. But sometimes recall will come and go - which is nothing to stress about - like sometimes I'll remember 4 dreams in one night, and sometimes I won't remember any.

Check out the Reality Checks tutorial for some ideas of different RCs you can use. A lot of people use the holding your nose and trying to breathe one. I like to use RCs in conjunction with my common dreamsigns, which you will begin to notice as you are recording more and more dreams - you'll start to see patterns of dreaming about the same scenario or same person, object, place, etc.

Also, you can start trying some induction techniques whenever you want. Some good ones to start with are MILD and WBTB. But check out the rest of the tutorials for more info on all the other techniques and other dream-related topics.

Oh and I'd highly recommend reading Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge, which is commonly referred to as EWOLD (and the LDing Bible) on LDing forums.

Please feel free to post any questions or experiences you may have. Good luck and have fun!

Just one question, when you have a lucid dream, is it like real life? Because when I have a dream, I don't actually feel like i'm in the dream, and dont even think about the dream until I waske up, do you know what I mean? Like, I dont think about anything in the dream, and when I wake up, I feel as if I just watched a movie through my own eyes sort of thing, but when i'm actually asleep I don't think about anything.. When you have a lucid dream, do you actually think about stuff while your alseep, so it's like real life?

Well, the term lucid dreaming directly translates to "Conscious Dreaming." All it really is, is knowing your dreaming. Control comes later through practice.

Also, dreams can be more or less vivid. It all depends on your level of awareness and how open your mind is at that time. So yes, when you lucid dream, you do think. When lucid dreaming, your bringing your conscious mind into the dream rather than just your subconscious.

How ever, that doesnt necissarily mean that you have control. You could think, but have everything, including yourself, not in your control.

as whoever has read Dune (book three I think) knows:

      "Your Mind controls your reality"

Dreams are as real, and sometimes more real, then the world your nerves keep on feeding you, and forcing you to exept.

Havn't yet had a proper lucid (damn mind dosn't seem to care when it realizes that it is dreaing lattly {WORK YOU PIECE OF ORGANIC NEURAL NET!!!}) BUT I have had some very real dreams.

Thanks! Last night I tried a FILD, which didn't work, but I wasn't worried, I had like 7 dreams! Because I kept waking up every ten minutes and falling back to sleep, but I could never remember the dreams when I woke up I remembered two of them though. The problem with my dreams at the moment though is, to do a RC I have ot be able to consioucly think, hey I should try an RC, but in my dreams, I don't think about anything until i'm awake. I suppose if I keep doing RC's in real life, eventually my mind will do one in a dream, and that will snap my mind into thinking when the RC works.

Yeah, Make a habit of RCing in Reality. For example, every hour(or 2, 3 ect) look at your hands and ask yourself(in your head or aloud) "Am I dreaming?"

Turn this into a habit, so much so that it just happens naturally. When you do this in a dream, it'll snap to you that your dreaming. This is one of the easier methods.

the more vivid your dreams are, the more it seems like you were just there. Luckly when you have a lucid dream you can increase how vivid it is. Its hard to explain the experience to someone who hasnt had one, except for the fact that it will leave you craving for more
