Like so many newbies, I felt the need to try out the shiny "New Topic" button and see what wonders it could evoke. I don't really have anything fun, or interesting, or even slightly meaningful to say, so I'll mostly just talk about myself.

I'm very new to the concept of Lucid Dreaming; I only stumbled upon it about a month ago by hitting the random article button on wikipedia (you see what clicking shiny buttons can do?). My dream recall was very poor until recently... I was one of the people who believed I didn't have dreams. Much to my surprise, it only me wanting to remember my dreams for me to actually remember them (good ol' placebo effect in action ), and I'm now up to at least one dream per night.

I actually had my first L.D. when I was eight or nine years old, but it was rather pathetic... something along the lines of:

*Hey... hey cool! This is a dream*

*I wonder what I could do? This is so neat! I bet I could do anything I want!*

And then I wake up.

Recently, however, I experienced my first intentionally induced L.D. It was only slightly better than my first one:

*Hey... that guy behind me is eight feet tall... and how did he get there? Wait! I'm in a dream!*

*Okay, okay, stay calm. Let's try experimenting. Hmm.... Fireballs in every direction, GO!*

Magic fireballs fly everywhere

*Oh, neat, I guess. Hmm... wonder what happens if I... kill myself? GO!*

And then I wake up. So... I'm guessing killing yourself in a dream is a bad idea for beginners (duh).

So basically, what this thread amounts to is a slightly pathetic attempt to get attention... but, aside from that, does anyone have any recommendations for what *not* to do the next L.D. I have? I'd rather not waste one again.

Cool

Well don't worry about wasting any LDs hopefully you will have a lot more opportunities to sleep and dream.

Might be worth you looking at the tutorials for the technique FILD - I had my first really properly induced LD with that. DILDs are ok but they are so difficult to get - with something like FILD or WILD at least you are concious all the time you are entering the dream state so you are just passing from wakefulness to dream wakefullness without really doing anything. I was amazed how easy FILD was. I just had to be tired upon waking and then as I feel off to sleep move two fingers until I entered the dreamstate. Unfortunately with lack of sleep I havn't managed to do it again - Be careful of World of Warcraft everyone it can b addictive

Obviously Dream Journal is very important to record as much and anything you remember. You can get some massive recalls with practice. Recall is so important because if you don't have good recall then when you wake up from the LD while you knew you were there in the LD you might forget it on waking if your recall isn't good. Also don't go back to sleep after an LD unless you wrote it down cos you forget alot by the time you wake up.

Are you doing reality checks. That is good so you can test the dream state once you got into the LD. I do a hand RC every hour where I check number of fingers, solildity etc. When I RC in an LD I can see wierd stuff happening to my hand e.g 9 fingers etc.. At least if you RC your hand you always have it with you - no point in RCing a watch cos you might not be wearing one in the LD.

Hey well good luck - be patient. I have ony had 8 LD's in just over a year of trying - it's improving but it takes awhile. Practice makes perfect as they say! Maybe get Steven Laberge's book or read all the tutorials u can on Dream Views.

Good Luck,

Namaste

Hi, welcome and congrats! Great job at dream recall. My husband is one of "those" people who doesn't think he really dreams, either. I keep telling him that it just takes practice but... ::shrugs::

Anyway, if you want to try to guarantee staying in a LD, don't do anything really exciting (like sex). Excitement stimulates waking up. I'd save that for more advanced goal.

Always remember to do your reality checks, and rub your hands together if you feel yourself waking, or spin in circles. Good luck to you!

Welcome to the forum naikou

Most people usually have lucids when they are younger to escape from nightmares. Well, every one has pretty much said all the information, so I'm just going to say hi. Oh and here's a link to the Tutorials Section.

See you around.

My drug of choice is Final Fantasy XI, but (luckily?) I have to save up for college so I can't keep playing.

Are you doing reality checks.
That's probably my weakest point. I've been trying to identify some dreamsigns so I can do an RC whenever I see something that reminds me of one, but no luck, so far. I suppose I'll draw a circle on the back of my hand to remind me to keep RC'ing.

A tip for Reality Checking is to get a digital watch and make it bleep every hour, reminding you to do a RC. The circle on the back of the hand is a good idea too.

woohoo! :yumdumdoodledum:

I finally experienced my first "real" L.D.! Thanks for the advice, everyone. I think it was the constant reality checking that finally did it for me. You can check my dream journal if you care to read about it - http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/inde...howtopic=43167
