Hi, I'm new to the forums, and relatively new to lucid dreaming. I've been trying several lucid dreaming techniques for the past three weeks or so, with little success in terms of lucid dreaming. I've been doing pretty well in terms of dream recall, but have only been able to recall about one dream a night, sometimes I'll get glimpses of a second. Anyhow, my subconscious has pretty much gotten used to waking me up naturally at around 4 AM (I sleep at 10:30), and I usually get up, go to the bathroom, get back in bed, and try a lucid dreaming technique. This time, though, was really weird.

I got out of bed, went to the bathroom as normal, and came back to bed. I was propped up against the wall, and getting ready to lay down completely, but I knew that something was going to happen. It was just a strong feeling that something strange was about to happen. Sure enough, once I closed my eyes, I saw bright light in my eyelids. Almost immediately, my entire body felt like it was vibrating with great intensity. I knew it wasn't a physical vibration, but it felt just as real as anything. While it was odd, it felt very natural, and it wasn't frightening at all.

As it was happening, I didn't freak out, but recognized the fact that it was happening, and I remembered that I had read something about intense vibrations recently. Unfortunately, I hadn't read it very thoroughly at all, so I had no idea what to do. I just sort of disconnectedly thought that I might have my first LD. After about thirty seconds of the vigorous vibrations, I fell asleep. The next morning, I couldn't remember any dreams, and about five minutes of waking, I recalled the vibrations, and could remember clearly what it felt like.

What do the vibrations mean, and what should I have done?

      Thanks.

      Michael

      Hi there!
Well, I'm not as experiened as other members on this site, but I think I can kind of help you out.

I think you're refering to either Sleep Paralysis (other DV members call it SP), or the onset of you trying to do (or just falling into) a WILD, or Wake-Initiated Lucid Dream.

SP happens during the onset of sleep. That's when it's best to do a WILD, becuause you can literally go right into the dream state, so the next time it happens, just stay calm and tell yourself that the next you do/see/hear will probably be a dream.

Even though it's VERY hard to do for some of us, you seem to be very good at it. Just keep doing what you're doing, whatever it is, cause it seems to be working!!

The vibrations are a good sign. I get them just before I WILD, the key i found was to remain mentally aware as much as possible. Maintain concentration on any lights in your field of view and maintain your focus. I find that a few minutes later I White-Out, everything goes white and I feel like i'm falling backwards, while moving forwards and then im in a dream! so try maintaining your concentration and don't fall asleep!!!
