      Hi and welcome,

Sounds like hypnagogic sound and imagery. I have it too and I believe it's quite common to experience it when you go to sleep or wake up. Though it probably differs from person to person. It's quite funny sometimes, when my waking and dream worlds twist together for a minute or so. Like this morning when I tryed to solve a puzzle on my mobile phone. I snap out of it quite quickly, so I don't know what you experience.
I really don't know how to "treat" it or what exactly it is. If it's hypnagogic sound and imagery as I suspect it, it isn't really a "condition" to be treated, it's a natural thing I think. Have you tryed just ignoring it? Because it sounds like it causes you unnecessary problems.
      Hope I helped a bit.

      Here you go: Hypnopompia

Bonsay was basically right except that Hypnogogia is used to describe the sensations you have when going to sleep, and Hypnopompia is used to describe the those you have when waking up.

They can be kinda freaky, at times, but the best thing you can do is learn to accept them, much like dreams/nightmares, they become less scary, the more you decide not to fear them.

      Hi there,

I'm pretty new here too... I have similar experiances to what you're discribing, but mine happens while I'm falling asleep. I see things and hear things. My ears pop a lot while it is happening. I aslo usually feel like there is someone standing over me, sometimes with an axe/sword/chainsaw... I try to scream, but I just can't make noise come out. It was seriously freaking me out, and my ears were in quite a bit of pain.

Oddly enough, once I found this website and learned that it was sleep paralysis with fasle awakenings and that both of those come with hallucinations, tinginling feeling in the body, and "out of body" type experiances, I felt a lot better just to put a name to it. It also helped to learn that there are lots of other people who have this... not only that... that they like it!

For the past week, when I feel this happening, I relax and try to control the events my self.

Mind you, all this happens to me around midnight, right after I go to bed, so I still manage to get a good night sleep. That might make a huge difference and totally invalidate everything I've said.

My Point? Take Bonsay's advise and the knowledge that you are dreaming while it is happening and that other people have the same thing happen, might allow you to not feel so overwhelmed.
There are strange things done 'neath the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold.
The arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold.
The northern lights have seen queer sights
But the queerest they ever did see,
Was that night on the marge of Lake LeBarge
      When I cremated Sam McGee.

What can I say, I'm a HI and SP whore. It makes me feel like I'm achieving something special with my mind, and I love the feeling of being so messed up.

I guess that it is a perception thing. For me, HI/SP have always been associated with lucid dreaming, something I enjoy. For you guys, its been associated with fear and disease. Maybe trying lucid dreaming will help alleviate some of your anxiety?

      I am from South Africa
