So I'm just starting out here with the basic first step of trying to keep a dream journal, but I've got the habit of hitting the snooze button on my alarm several times everyday before getting up. If I get up to write down my dreams right away, after getting up the first time, their way more fresh in my head. But then once I'm awake after writing it's hard to justify snoozing. If I try to write after snoozing I find that the main dream is hard to remember, the 5 minute in-between snooze dreams don't tend to be very good. Should I kick the snooze habit? anybody else experience this. Don't you think those inbetween snooze dreams are not very good too?

Story of my life... The worst is that sometimes I even oversleep the snoozing (which lasts only one hour).
I usually remember those 5min dreams and yes, I also forget the main dream most times. The thing is I just can't get my head straight to get myself up and write down my dreams!

The 5min dreams are sometimes cool, though. And most times they seem to last much longer than 5min.

Do you have a journal within arm's reach of where you sleep? If not put a book and pen where you can get to it easily when you wake up. Jot down a few sentences of your main dream first thing when you wake. It only takes a few seconds. And then doze happily off again if you have to.

Sometimes you can recall a dream again by reading a few words or sentences associated with that dream. You can get back to it later and write it out in full when you find the time to do something other than snooze.

Oh yeah, welcome to Dream Views, 3krealms!

haha 3krealms, I have the same snoozing problem! I intentionally set my alarm for 30-45 minutes before I actually have to get up because I hit my snooze 3 or 4 times every morning. It feels like I get to sleep longer this way, but I'm actually getting less sleep because I have to wake up to smack the snooze each time. The only benefit I have with doing this is that I can wake up slowly, over 30 minutes, rather than just jumping out of bed the first time it goes off. But I'm getting a puppy in a couple weeks, so I'll have to kick the snoozing habit...

So to answer your question, you'd probably be better off (recall-wise) to just get up the first time the alarm goes off. Or as a compromise, maybe only allow yourself to hit the snooze ONE TIME and then get up. Your recall will be better without all the snoozing.

Oh and welcome to the forum!

I used to have the same problem, but then I got myself one of these and now I hardly ever snooze anymore! :)

LOOOL! Instead of kicking the snooze habit I'd probably just become poor as hell using that thing!

I always sleep past my alarm, so I have to set it at 5:30 instead of 6.

maybe try to set up you alarm away from where you can't hit the snooze button. This will make you stand up to turn off the darn alarm

If you're really sleepy in the morning that wont work. I tried that many times and usually I'd hit the snooze and get back to bed just like if I was sleep walking!

Aw, that must suck. I'm lucky that my snooze button is so small and hard to get to [I think my first alarm doesn't have one so I just make the rock music go mute], but I have the same issue with writing the dream when you remember it the the best, I just go back to sleep and wait for my second alarm to go off at 5:30 [so that I don't over sleep and can successfully do a WBTB]... I don't even record the dream then, I wait 'til about twelve hours later where I might have forgotten it.

Maybe you should just get another alarm [old fashioned one with the annoying bell] to go off ten minutes after the first one that you press snooze on, it might help you to stay awake long enough to convince yourself to write down your dreams, or learn to at least turn off one of your alarms ahead of time [that last one's not too helpful though...]
