      Questions

I have been keeping a dream journal since I have found this site which was about a month ago. My dream recall is up to 2-3 dreams every single night. However I still have some questions about lding that I would like answered.

      1. Is it ok to write down my dreams when I wake up in the morning because i'm always to tired to write them down at nightime? (I remember them in the morning anyways)

      2. Should I start being able to have lds more often with my improved dreamrecall?

      3. Is it possible to have lds while not in your REM period?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      1. It should be OK, yes. I do that, though I jot down notes at night now and then in case I forget.

      2. With improved dream recall you should recognise your dreamsigns more easily I suppose. Who knows, you might start to remeber more LDs that you'd otherwise forget.

      3. The REM period is when all the 'real', fully formzed dreams take place. So not really, no. Thoguh that's not to say it isn't possible, just much harder.

If you are having no trouble with recall fading out or disappearing, it really doesn't matter when you record the dream. Most find that they have the most detailed recall right when waking from the dream.

      2. Should I start being able to have lds more often with my improved dreamrecall?
Dream recall does two important things for you; helps to identify dreamsigns to trigger Reality Checks, and lets you remember your lucids when you have them? (What's the point of having the most amazing lucid dream in the world if you don't remember it?) The first point does increase your chances.

      3. Is it possible to have lds while not in your REM period?
Yes. I've only recalled a couple of them. It is harder to do than when in REM, more difficult to recall and more difficult to stay stable and retain lucidity. (How many non-REM dreams do you remember? The only time I ever recall them is if my earliest stages of sleep are interrupted.)

EDIT - After further research, what I've found is that somnambulism occurs during NREM sleep stages, NOT during REM, so it is not related to dreaming. Unless dreams occur during NREM sleep, which there is some debate about still. Or, maybe somnambulism is a result of non-SP hypnagogic imagery.

Yes. I've only recalled a couple of them. It is harder to do than when in REM, more difficult to recall and more difficult to stay stable and retain lucidity. (How many non-REM dreams do you remember? The only time I ever recall them is if my earliest stages of sleep are interrupted.)
How do you know you weren't in REM? Maybe you had some sleep-onset REM (not too uncommon). I just ask because, while there is some dissent, the general consensus is that dreams only happen in REM. If you have some strong evidence either way, I'd be interested at least in hearing it.

      LD Counter (as of 07.25.07) = 5 (2 WILDs)
Short-term goal: Recall three full dreams a night for a full week.
Long-term goal: Have three LDs per week for one month.
Longer-term goal: Have one six-hour LD every night! (Shooting too high? We'll see.)
Waking life goal: Round up some NPSG equipment to study my own sleep patterns.
