      I once was lost....

Great site and forum. Glad I stumbled across it.

I used to suffer from re-occuring nightmares. Stemming from a shitty childhood and abandonment. These nightmares were ghastly. Usually I was being chased by cannibals or George Romero stalker type zombies. The dream would last for as long as I could run away and would end right before I got eaten. This was from about age 12-33. I actually got to a point where I didnt want to dream anymore. Except that there were a few times a month that I didnt have the nightmares and would be lucid. Needless to say I loved the lucid dream times because I was out of harms way and it was always something fun. Like sex, surfing or flying.
One night when I was 33 something happened that never happened in my dreams before. I was having my typical nightmare..being chased and some ghoul or enemy trying to kill me. But then I became lucid during this nightmare. Never before had that happened. Sure I had pleny of both types of dream. Just not at the same time.
I was in a dark maze like building with the predator on my tail when I got lucid. I realized I was dreaming because I was in a building and every hall I ran down had a dead end. I thought to myself "what kind of building has no connecting hallways?"..and BOOM...lucidity. I turned to my predator and he just vanished. Then turned to the dead end wall I was facing, placed my hands in it like it was water. And opened my arms and the wall with it. Out came a bright rainbow color light streaming like a spotlight, I stepped through into the light and woke up.

Havent had a nightmare since...that was two years ago. It makes me tear up to think about all the years I was afraid to dream. And the miracle which saved my sanity.

That's some story. I too had a childhood and teenage-hood riddled with nightmares. Mine disapated after finding this forum and seriously striving for lucid dreams. I haven't had a real nightmare in quite some time. (I had the zombie dreams alot too)

      Hey there,

I think I can relate I used to have strange sort of anxiety dream/nightmare, where I felt a dark presence all around in me in the dream, without ever being able to see exactly where it was, what it was. It was just sort of all around.

One night, in a very vivid lucid dream which I remember well even to this day, I became aware that I was dreaming and decided to turn around and confront this dark presence. I felt it disappear and instead, before my eyes, turn into a very beautiful but non threatening black panther. I sat down next to the animal and hugged it, and that was that.

Since then, never had that type of dream again, whereas they were fairly common in the time before.

Those zombies were gnarly. Mine were the "28 days later" type before the movie came out. Fast as heck..
