Hey welcome to DreamViews . I havn't had a successful WILD but I'll try to answer your questions from my experience and from reading around the forums.
That numbness precedes SP and it can take quite a while to get to SP. To shorten the amount of time, do WBTB (wake back to bed, basically you wake up in the middle of the night and then try that and since it will be you REM stages rather than deep sleep it will be easy to get SP and get into a dream. I've gotten SP once in the morning after waking (or apparently not waking completely) from an LD. It's pretty scary but as long as you know its safe its no big deal. Keep trying to LD and you'll get it. I find that WBTB works well even if you don't try to WILD, just tell yourself to have an LD and the chance that you will increases alot (I thought it was bull until i tried it and got one the first try).
