      Valuable advice needed

Hi, ive recently started to try LD. I have started a dream journal, and tried one WILD. I have also had sleep paralysis upon waking up before, usually after sleeping in, however SP has never been accompanied by hallucinations for me and is not frightening. When i tried to WILD, i got into a sort of partial SP, and felt very numb. The numbness spread for my hands and legs to my torso, but after that nothing happened for so long that i gave up. How can i continue and actually get into an LD? Also, is there any way to shorten the lying perfectly still and breathing time? Is the numbness just as good as normal SP, or does it precede SP?

Hey welcome to DreamViews. I havn't had a successful WILD but I'll try to answer your questions from my experience and from reading around the forums.

That numbness precedes SP and it can take quite a while to get to SP. To shorten the amount of time, do WBTB (wake back to bed, basically you wake up in the middle of the night and then try that and since it will be you REM stages rather than deep sleep it will be easy to get SP and get into a dream. I've gotten SP once in the morning after waking (or apparently not waking completely) from an LD. It's pretty scary but as long as you know its safe its no big deal. Keep trying to LD and you'll get it. I find that WBTB works well even if you don't try to WILD, just tell yourself to have an LD and the chance that you will increases alot (I thought it was bull until i tried it and got one the first try). Good Luck!

^^ What he said. I've tried to WILD without waking up in the middle of the night, and I get semi-SP kind of feeling. But since it takes a long time to enter REM from waking (it's over an hour), I usually get bored and quit. Also, the first REM period is low quality and short, even if you succeed in the WILD, you'd get a low-vivid, 10-minute lucid (at best). So just do WBTB if you're going to try WILD.

Thx guys, I have tried the WBTB but without WILD, next time i will combine them. Also, I tried WILD for a morning nap and counted to 817 breaths, which was over an hour, Im not sure what is wrong, maybe I am not able to fall asleep because paralysis is kind've uncomfortable...
