Unhappy Fastest way to make reality checking a habit.

I had my first lucid dream basically by chance. I was in a warehouse kind of setting and there was a window I was trying to see inside. My dream was hazing out my vision and so I started thinking "That's annoying. Why is it doing that?" I realized it was a dream and immediately started rubbing my hands together. My vision cleared and I was Lucid. I haven't had a LD since and I want to know the quickest easiest way to make reality checking a habit (and I don't have one of those beeping watches either).

      PLEASE! I need to know!

The fastest? I doubt that there is any fast way. For LDing you just need a lot of patience.

      Hey there,

I understand the need to look for results, but even if there was a garantued fastest way, it wouldn't necessarily be the best way. As Uberschall already said, lucid dreaming takes patience. Its also in part an exploration, of yourself, of your dreaming world, and of what affects it and how it is affected.

This exploration is different for everyone. Some people respond well to certain things, and others find that the same thing has no effect for them. Its also an exploration that shouldn't be rushed, in my opinion. Learn to know your dreams, learn to know your sleeping habbits, in part, even learn a little bit more about yourself. Not only will you likely enjoy the entire process a lot more, you'll probably get less frustrated, AND have better results at the same time.

      Just my 2 sleepycents,

      Hey Shinjiro-yan

Unfortunately the only way your going to get into a habit fast is to repeat whatever your going to do over and over again, just keep it on your mind, after a few days of doing it it should become a natural habit, anyways i wish you the best of luck!

First up, welcome to Dream Views! Be sure to ask if you have any questions and make yourself at home.

As the others have said, there isn't really a fastest way, just try to do it as often as you can. I personally use the finger counting reality check, so I do it each time I look down at my hands. You just need to find something tat will remind you, but try not to set a alarm. I and others have found that doing them at timed intervals rarely makes them carry over into dreams as they're not really habits, just a mundane routine I suppose.

      Welcome to the forum.

I would suggest identifying your dreamsigns first off, these are regular occurrences within your dreams. Once you have identified these try linking your reality checks to them.

      For example:

If you dream about cars a lot, every time you see one, look at your hands and quickly count your fingers, or try putting your finger through your hand.

This way over tie you will embed this process in your subconscious and when you come to a dream with a similar scenario an RC would be done in your dream and this should induce lucidity.

      Good luck

I rarely do RCs (tho I know I should) and this "finger counting" check is one that I can absolutely do without it being a big hassle.

      Thanks Alex!

Like most everybody else said, if you aren't one of those who just suddenly realize you're dreaming, RCs take time. Simply put, they're habits, and habits take a while to develop.

My advice would be to stick with whatever you're doing, though. I basically stopped all dream journalling, RCs, and everything else for a week, and I've pretty much lost all my progress from when I first started out.
      LD Counter (as of 07.25.07) = 5 (2 WILDs)
Short-term goal: Recall three full dreams a night for a full week.
Long-term goal: Have three LDs per week for one month.
Longer-term goal: Have one six-hour LD every night! (Shooting too high? We'll see.)
Waking life goal: Round up some NPSG equipment to study my own sleep patterns.

a really good way (forget reality checking although it's quiet good), one new habit i came over and had a lucid dream by chance recently (i even posted about it) is that whenever something go's wrong like now. when your not alseep, you say to yourself "this cant be happening, i must be dreaming" or lucid dreaming . whichever, out loud if your alone or in your mind when someones around.

trust me i did that a couple of times and subcounciously i said it in my dream which when something went wrong i sed this cant be happening i must be lucid dreaming and it worked.

do it with dramistism when your alone , this can be whenever something goes wrong like something big i guess, but i say it when when remote falls out my hand. ok i dont really say it then im not obsessed I just say it when i feels its ryt.

and another one like once or whenever you want to just do a simple reality test by pinching your nose to see if you can breath thru it. might aswell try it never hurts to try.

and i had the same problem too i just dont have a digital watch (i ahve an anologue 1) and if i do buy 1 i want it to be a good expensive one, im picky. lol , so thats why i havent bothered reality checking via a watch.

tell me if you see results i wud love to hear from you.

Wear a watch and make it bleep every hour, then do a reality check.
