Keep waking up when becoming lucid

I haven't posted on this forum for ages, but lately I've become interest in lucid dreams again and decided to renew my account, but i've been lurking every once in a while.

I've started my dream journal again, and getting back into it hopefully this time for good, there's only one thing bothering me. Every time i become lucid, I always fly a bit to reinforce my lucidity, and every single time my vision turns black and I wake up. Its gotten to the point where I expect to wake up, which most likely isn't good .

Last night this happened to me, I noticed I was dreaming, I did some deep breathing to calm myself down, but I still woke up after flying up no more than 10 meters.

What do you think I can do to fix this?

      back to Dreamviews!

As soon as you become lucid, calm yourself, then concentrate on your body. Convince yourself that it is a dream. Look around, and tell yourself "this is all a dream. Everything here is a dream." Then, always keeping in mind that you're dreaming, do whatever you want to do. There is also the possibility that you will become lucid a few seconds before the dream will naturally end, and if it has already begun ending, there's not a whole lot you can do.
      I hope this helps!

      Thanks for the help.

I highly doubt its because of the end of the dream, because its happened at least 5 or so times.

I'm probably just going to take it slow next time I have a lucid dream, no sudden flying etc.

I've read on dreamviews in other threads both that me expecting to wake up will most likely make me wake up, and also me being over excited will wake me as well.

dont think about your real body or your eyes. sometimes if i concentrate on my eyes ill wake up. other times i think about my body and i wake up. just concentrate on whats happening and on your dream body.

Yes, suddenly trying to do something as exciting as flying can be catastrophic. And of couse the placebo effect in LDs is pretty much the essence of dream control. Same goes for staying in a LD.
I've never tried it, but you can also try to summon a portal, which when you step though it will lead you to a X-minute lucid dream. Believe it will work, and it's worth a shot.

That making a portal idea sounds interesting, I might give it a shot.

Hopefully I'll get a lucid dream tonight, and if so I'll stick to the 'finger through palm' RC heh.

I often find that just by reassuring myself before bed that I will be lucid or flying really helps. I went on a roll one time where I dreamed about flying almost every night for a month and it was great! Normally I was in complete control but a couple times I was falling to the ground and just at the last couple seconds I stopped panicking and told myself to relax cuz I could fly and I came to a soft landing on my feet just in time.

And on a funny note a few times during my dreams I would be going long distances or up steep larhe hills until I realized "Hey, why the heck am I walking when I can fly!" ahahaha So then I did, but the key to all these flying and lucid dreams I had was that I was telling myself before bed that I should have them and expect them. After that month of flying I mastered the art and now I seldom have flying dreams. I guess I should go back to telling myself I need some more uh?
