      Going to sleep earlier?

Hey, right now I go to sleep at about 11, 11:30 and I wake up at 6am, so this means I don't get enough sleep. When I try to go to bed earlier, I only find that its very hard to go to sleep, so I was thinking if anyone had any experience on doing this. I'm talking about sleeping earlier just like that, but I find it very difficult. Any advice will be appreciated.

I don’t know how much I can help but I had the sleep deficiency problem in highschool. The unfortunate thing with sleeping earlier is some changes have to happen. First if you drink any kinds of caffeine, draw a time limit so it isn’t affecting you in any way at bedtime. Second is you have to have things wrapped up and be IN bed by the earlier time you set. So if you set it for 9pm, be in bed at 9. Even if you cannot sleep the first few nights you can always read, so forth. Just make it clear to your body your intention to go to sleep (or "wind down") then.

I was never hugely successful. I found it hard to change my lifestyle around for the sake of lucid dreaming. Maybe you will persevere, though! Best of luck.

Actually, just stick with it a few days...

Our bodies have what they call a biorythme. By repetition, it learns when it is time to sleep, to eat, to wake up, etc, so that when the time comes, the body automatically starts 'preparing'. You'll start to get sleepy at around the time you normally go to sleep, you often start to get hungry at the time you normally eat, etc etc...

When we change the rythme, it takes a while for our body to adapt and get used to the new rythme (this incidentally is the reason for Jet-lag). So you'll try to go sleep earlier, but your body isn't really tired yet. However, give it some time, repeat going to bed earlier, even if it takes you a while to sleep in the beginning. After a while your body will adapt and you'll be sleeping like a baby again

      Hope that helps,

Getting more exercise will help. I do daily high intensity weight training and I can easily get +12 hours of sleep every day. I stopped doing it for a few weeks about a month ago. I found that I was going to bed at about 3am and getting up at about 11am. When I started exercising again I was tired by 11pm most days and could sleep through until around 1pm.

      Good luck

I find the same thing, once you get into a habit of going to bed at a certain time you find it really difficult to get to sleep if you go to bed earlier.

Try going to bed at the same time every night.

And if all that fails try some melatonin or valerian. I recommend these only as a last resort though.

Oh, finally someone with the same problem as me! I`m exactly like you, in every way. Thankfully, I have answers that helped me start getting to sleep 2-3 hours earlier.
However, there are some rules that you need to abide by EVERY NIGHT.
      1. No computer at least two hours before bed. It stimulates the brain and will keep you up longer.
      2. If you read before bed, don't read anything you actually like. Make sure it's something boring. And DON'T read in bed.
      3. Try and stay away from your bed as much as possible, don't use it for reading/gaming/thinking etc. Keep your bed ONLY for sleeping. That way, when you lay down in it, your brain automatically gets the message.
      4. Get into routines. Get changed, wash face, brush teeth, etc. Do it in the same order every night and go to bed at the same time.

It seems really simple, but it helped me a lot. Just give it a try, and don't worry if it doesn't work immediately. Some people can take up to a month to get into the routine of it.
When I close my eyes it looks like this...

Hrm, you get about 7 hours sleep. That's a good amount, I'd hardly say you need that much more. Maybe another hour tops.

To solve your problem, can you go to bed half an hour earlier and get up half an hour later?

No I can't get up later, I'm always rushing for school (I get ready in about 10 minutes). As for sleeping earlier, starting today I'm getting in bed at 10pm. I'm also gonna try the no computer for a while before bed, it does stimulate me a lot. I also think that self hypnosis could help a lot here, after I get back from my karate lessons (I do exercise hehe). I think I'm getting into a very busy life right now, I'm planning on starting guitar AND piano lessons. I think the more active you are during the day the easier it is to sleep at night.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I really appreciate it you're all very nice
