      Reality Versus Dream World

Ever since I became interested in lucid dreaming again, it feels like everynight I go to bed is Christmas Eve! I have that tremendous feeling of excitment of not knowing what to expect once I fall asleep. I know it's important not to escape from reality but sometimes I wish I could just spend all day in dream world exploring everything it has to offer! Unfortunatley, I am probably coming off as absurd saying this, but how awesome would it be if reality didn't actually exist, if life was nothing but dream after dream and it lasted forever, no worries about health, or death, or anything! I guess perhaps it might get boring after a while and we would want to snap out of it, but I don't see how since there is so much more possibilites in our dreams than in real life. Anyway, will you please let me know if what I am thinking about living in a Dream World instead of a reality would be better, or am I just starting to lose my marbles? Thanks!
      -Hank W.

P.S. Only six more hours until bed time! And by the way, yes I know, I need more hobbies. I love birdwatching, but as soon as Spring and Summer is over, all the birds fly south so my biggest hobby is non existent. So in other words, lucid dreaming is my biggest hobby for the Fall and Winter months, so I get really really into it.

I don't think it would get boring... the possibilities are endless! I don't think you're going crazy by wanting that.

What we don't want is people sleeping 12-14 hours a day trying to get into a lucid dream. That's very, very bad.

      Hey there,

I'm never bored in my waking life. Inbetween work, hobbies and friends, I tend to keep nicely busy. But just like you, every night I am eager to go to sleep and see what dreams I will have. It's not about escaping, it's about exploring

As for your idea about life and dreams, it's not as uncommon as you think it is. In fact, most the tibetan dreamyoga is based around the same concept, and even many of the more regular budhistic views tend to see life as a continuation of dream after dream (until you finally break free from the cycle).

Anyways, welcome aboard! Enjoy your stay... (almost) as much as you enjoy your dreams

i would love to live in a dream world non stop!! in fact, that's what i hope happens to me when i die, my soul is trapped in a dream environment and i can live forever in a dream and never worry about my health or death ever again. at least thanks to my subliminal audio CD, i can enjoy small samples of dream world every night!

Good heavens yes! Of course I would exchange reality for an everlasting dream! I would transform myself into a beautiful Goddess and once I got sick of the way I looked, I would transform into something else! LOL. Most people take their dreams for granted and aren't even familiar what lucid dreaming is. If everyone learned how to lucid dream, they would respect ld's just as much, if not more, as they do reality.

As Brad Pitt said in the movie Troy (), it's the fact that you can die at any time that makes life so beautiful. So I don't like this idea, I like the world as it is.
So anyway, have fun in your dreams, nothing's wrong with them as long as they stay that way

It is a fact that your are going to die sometime and the only thing that is left is a dreamlike state with no going back to the real life so enjoy your reality while you still have it, it is too short as it is...
I almost kicked the bucket this year and the recovery process is not pleasant but I am alive and looking forward to having a better quality of life next year. ATM, a dream is an escape from my sometimes, unpleasant reality.

      Live long and prosper.

I seriously hope you're wrong, not that I worry about it, but it would suck really badly. Other than that, best wishes and I wish you a quick recovery.

Which part do you hope is wrong?
      Dying ? - undisputable fact.
Dreamlike state ?- It is a possible that after death, we enter a dreamlike state which is our afterlife.
Not going back to the real life ? - Do we get re-incarnated as another person? I dont believe so, at least if we did, we would have no memory of the previous life so whats the point of believing in the possibility.

Thanks for the health wishes . I dont like my life atm . Looking forward to better times next year once I have finished my poisonous treatments .

Forgive me for saying this, but I personally don't believe in any such thing as an afterlife. I believe that the universe recycles the period of time over trillions and trillions of years, so we basically live the same life over and over and over again. If that theory is correct, this would probably be the 3,650,887,291,437th time I have wrote this in this thread alone!!:O

That would be hell to stay in a dream forever, you would become very bored, no new people to meet, no new things to learn, all you have is yourself, your lonely self.

Its good to try to lucid dream but dont try to make it your life, real life is better, you have friends, Hobie's, and many other things. Dont dream your life away.

      Dear Sugarglider11:
Thanks for your reply but I don't think it would be boring at all. How could it be boring when there is sooo many things to do in a dream that are impossible in real life? And when you say "no new people to meet", I think you are incorrect again because as far as I'm concerned, you can meet anybody you want in dreams... Anyway, thanks for your two cents.

How do you become bored with near-omnipotent power. You can always create new people, new places, new scenarios...

Dreams equal isolation. In reality, we retain an innate feeling that we share the experience. When I die, I want my life force to meld with some great life force, be it heaven, or perhaps the essence of life and earth itself. When the universe collapses, it is up to this force to create it again...

Of course, if I were to spend a human lifetime in a lucid dream, with complete control, I would absolutely adore it. But no longer than that.

Same here, eternal life would suck even if you were omnipotent...

If dreams were continuous and unbroken I would think the experience(dream state) would not be that much unlike the waking state.
I am of the growing opinion that the dream state and lucid dreaming is a precursor to working with yet a higher state of lucidity in the waking state itself.
Just as one at first is helpless to do anything but experience the dreams one has as they happen, one is also helpless to do anything but experience the life one lives awake. When one realizes that one can alter the "reality " of a dream by simply "willing" things into existance rather than physically working with what is there already one transcends being caught up in the dream.

I think the same principles apply to the waking state, though I am not anywhere near fully understanding the mechanics of it yet. The first toe of one foot is all that in the proverbial door at the moment.

How did this thread elude me.

Also, beyond dreaming for that matter.

      Anyways, i'll say my $5.

It is pointless to search for the truth. You are no better off with it.
I know a certain amount of truth. It is indestructably concrete.
Only to myself though, but that's all the evidence that matters.

People who stop at religion, believe they have found the answer.
Those in constant doubt, will find the real truth and certainty.

That everything is real, and everything is fake.
Dreaming is a slightly appropriate word i'd use to describe existence as.

Not just life, but beyond everything.

Meditation, could possibly hold this answer, though even then, it is not guarenteed.
Some people meditate, and get more confused with increasing doubt.

It doesn't matter. Nothing does. Yet everything does.

You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.
