      Hi! :)

Hello all, I am new to these forums and just thought I'd introduce myself. I have been having LDs occasionally since I was a little kid, not knowing what they were. I realize at some point that I'm dreaming and begin to control it. Unfortunately they never lasted for more than a few minutes and I almost always have just started flying towards some real world location that I've always wanted to visit, Especially since I have learned that time is short. Disney world when I was a child, to Hawaii and Paris as an adult

I never really thought of these dreams as anything out of the ordinary except a few times while talking to friends about weird/scary dreams we've had, I've told them about it and they all look at me like I'm crazy So anyway, I found an article about 10 ways to sleep better recently (I have horrible sleeping patterns) and one of the ways was to teach yourself to LD. I was amazed to find that the dreams I've been having all my life actually have a name and other people experience them too. I also was pleasantly surprised to find that you can actually teach yourself to do it So I googled it and here I am.

I want to thank everyone that contributed to the site, I am in the process of trying out some of the techniques (especially WILDs) but have not been successful yet. Any advice would be appreciated

So far, I have gotten myself to the point where my entire body is numb and I'm feeling vibrations but haven't been able to go beyond that. What exactly does sleep paralysis feel like? When I'm attempting it, I *can* force myself to move, but if I concentrate on parts of my body while lying still, I can't actually feel them (no feeling of lying on the bed, or my clothes or the blanket etc). Unfortunately, my boyfriend snores I can usually drown it out to sleep normally, and even with it I can get to the point I described, but is this preventing me from going further? Is perfect silence absolutely necessary?

Also, I am a bit afraid of the hypnagogic hallucinations. A couple times in my life (usually upon waking) I have experienced these (I think). Once I was lying in bed in my dorm room, and had a "dream" that someone came in and was pulling the sheet down around me so tight I couldn't breathe. Another time I was just waking in the morning and kept hearing voices that were preventing me from falling back asleep. Both times scared the crap out of me. Because I've had experiences like this in the past, is this what it will always be like for me?

On a side note, does anyone here read "The Wheel of Time"? Some characters in the books are "Dreamwalkers". Always when reading I thought how cool it would be to be able to do that. If you having read it, check it out, I'm sure you guys will appreciate that portion of it

Super cool. Lucid dreaming is cool. I am also in start of learning the wild. And the snoring problem... Well thats my problem too. Still. All the process of falling asleep is realy a calm one. The consciousness when not falling asleep is only adding some chaos into this process at the beginning of learning curve. You should think about it as a game. That helped me to move further. Just the game.

And about your experiences. I think i had some also. I cant describe them too, but dont you think, that exploring the dreams will help you to solve this question. Just the time dedicated to learn some basic skills will help you to understand what is happening. Maybe the feelings were some kind of residua from your latest dream and you didnt even know, what caused them. Maybe.

Let us know about your progress. People here will help you. I am sure

Hey there, to Dreamviews! I have heard of the wheel of time but still haven't got around to reading it. It seems pretty good so I'll have to find a copy of the first book soon. If u have any questions, feel free to ask.

So last night shortly after I made this post I tried again. I think I stopped it at the sleep paralysis stage? I was lying on my back with my palms down on the bed and after a bit of tingling I started to feel like my palms were facing up, then I started to feel like I was spinning. I stopped it because my heart started to literally pound really fast. Is this normal? I know it could be because of excitement but I *felt* pretty calm. It was a really scary feeling. I have never felt my heart beat so hard or fast before

Well I am awake now from my 5 hours sleep, so I think I will go try again, just in case the pulse thing really was only from not expecting the spinning.

Hi again. Dont worry about that feeling. Something what might help you was actually found in book by Frank Herbert called Dune: It is about fear.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. This is superb. It is called Litany against fear. Try it out. It helps.

So I gave up trying to WILD for a bit. I need to work up the courage after that physiological scare!

But I did have 2 very brief DILDs the other night.

In the first, I was speaking to my grandmother, who is recently deceased, and I realized that and then realized I was dreaming. I continued talking to her for a bit - she was already there after all! - and then I tried to do the spinning technique to prolong the dream and spun myself right into blackness and back into normal sleep.

The 2nd one I did the "look at your nose" RC and it failed so I started flying down the hallway... and thats all I can remember. I lost it somehow

Does it get easier to control/prolong the dreams with practice?

It's a little late, but to Dreamviews!

Congratulations on two DILDs in one night! They may have been short, but it's definitely a start! It gets easier to control and prolong dreams with practice, yes, simply because of experience. However, there are things you can do to improve both. For dream control, expecting something to happen doesn't always work. A more effective method is usually to expect it to happen somewhere out of your field of vision. For example, instead of making someone appear out of thin air, try expecting them to be inside a building, then walk into that building. Building a gadget (or finding one in your pocket) is also effective. If you can't simply control the weather, get a weather control gadget!

For prolonging the dream, spinning your dream body or rubbing your dream hands together is usually your best chance at saving the dream. Also, as soon as you become lucid, "ground" yourself in the dream by touching and feeling objects, feeling for detail, and fully convincing yourself that you are indeed dreaming.

I hope this helps you, good luck with your lucid efforts!
