      Exclamation Need help keeping lucid.

well, like the title says, I'm having problems keeping lucid.

I'll be in a dream and not suspect a thing when suddenly I realise that I'm lucid. So I say to myself: "ok, don't go hyper, keep lucid!"
So I spin and rub my hands together but whilst I'm spinning, everything starts to go dark and I get annoyed because I'm doing what I should do. oh yeah, then I wake up.
      Help?

okay....first you focus on something in the scenario...once you do that you will calm down....just stick with rubbing you hands together because when you are just starting out, spinning can make you lose a lucid and what i do is keep reassuring myself that im dreaming... I hope this helps you some
im sure someone will come along and give you some other ideas...

Sparkeycat, I'm one of the few members who has never had spinning work for them.. I always wake up.

I recommend getting used to what being lucid FEELS like by grounding yourself in your dreams.

I know when I first become lucid, I'd have to fight that initial rush of adrenalin. I do this by telling myself to calm down, breathing naturally (or a little slower) and I try to "ground" myself in the dream (i.e., make it as lucid as it can be) instead of immediately racing to do something before I lose lucidity.

One of the tricks I use to "ground" myself is to "touch" things. By touching.. I mean really "feeling" them. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc. (this also increases the vividness of the dream along with helping me remain in it longer).

You may also try to increase your vividness by confidently stating aloud "increase lucidity" or "clarity now".

Just remember that "the deeper the level of lucidity.. the better your lucid experience should be"

Oh, and welcome to Dream Views!

Sometimes we have "awaken dreams" as we wake up..

Learn more about sleep paralysis? Not the meme's, but the facts..

      Talking Thankyou!

Last night, ( after reading this) I had a LD for longer than usual thanks to everyones help.

I'll keep in mind that spinning might wake me up.

oh yeah, do you know what it's called when you are concious as you fall asleep?
It was all dark and I felt like I was walking down stairs.
I said to myself: just stay awake and you'll be lucid! Then I let myself fall backward off the stairs, and I wasn't scared at all.
Then I was in my dream room and I was like "Of ALL places to be lucid in, why my ROOM?" I forgot to rub my hands or spin, but I reminded myself to stay calm which helped. Sadly my Real Life cat came in and woke me up.

      Thanks, Sparkeycat

So far I have think I have 4 lucids and one of them was much like yours (OP's)...I became lucid and started to spin to stay lucid and then lost it.
Oh, well...I will try the techniques mentioned above

I don't find the spinning thing to work really. Rubbing my hands, yes. But not spinning.
You do this every fucking time.
      No sweat.
      No tears.
      No guilt.
You do this every fucking time.
