I'm new to the whole concept of Lucid Dreaming, but I think it may have already came. I was wondering if this is considered LD: Last night I dreamed I was in a river with two kittens stranded on an island. I went to rescue them, but I dreaded the death of them if I was to fail so the task of crossing the river with them seemed to repeat itself. I also remember someone else in the river but I don't know who, they were swimming but seemed to be observing. No matter how many times I reached the shore, I feared they may have died so I didn't look and the task simply happened again. Is this LD?

It's an LD if you knew you were dreaming at the time. Just to clarity a bit more. To become lucid you need to be fully conscious of the fact that you are dreaming whilst still asleep, like changing TV channels, From dream to conscious, CLICK, "holly shit, I'm having a dream". CLICK, back to the dream. The hard part that requires the skill and practise is constantly getting back to the conscious state so that you can control the dream and thats where reality checks come into it. Now you can answer your own question. Did you have a lucid dream? Anyway, Welcome and good luck.

Ronstek is correct. Lucid dreaming is merely the "awareness" that you are dreaming WHILE you're dreaming. Lucidity has nothing to do with "control" (meaning that you can be in a lucid dream.. but still not be able to affect any changes). Did you ever say (or think) to yourself, "I'm dreaming?" and, if so, did you BELIEVE this statement/thought to be true? If so, then you were definately lucid. Next time, if you're in doubt, do a "reality check". The reality check that has never failed me is the "plug my nose and see if I can breathe" reality check. It never hurts to do your favorite reality check a couple of times or even do two different ones.. just to really convince yourself!
