      Allow myself to introduce myself

      Hi everybody

First of all, I'm David. I'm 21 and I'm a musician living in Toronto.

Normally I'm not one to post an introduction in the newbie forum of a message board, but looking around here I can see that this community is one I would genuinely like to become involved in, and so what better place to actually meet some of the other members.

I found myself here after watching a podcast clip from The Hour with George Stromboulopoulous. (For those of you not in Canada, don't worry about the reference.) The clip was about dreaming, and it was just a 3 minute long ditty with random facts about dreams. Watching this reminded me of how years ago, when I was a kid, I used to (for lack of a better word) dream about one day being able to achieve lucid dreams. Next thing I knew I googled 'lucid dream' and now here I am.

I opened up a dream journal as my first step to committing to achieving this goal, and in it I provided a more detailed introduction of myself, but I just wanted to throw in a post in this forum so that I could make myself known as a newbie in the appropriate place.

My dream journal, where you can read my real introduction as well as my first dream journal entry is here:

I am looking forward to meeting you guys, as I will surely be needing a lot of help along my way.

Oh, and before I go, I do have my first question: I have noticed that many members here follow a convention for their signature, which involved a lucid dream count. I have also noticed that many such variations on this convention abound around here, and some of them I am unable to interpret. While I have yet to have a lucid dream, I would be interested in learning this convention so that I can better intergrate myself into this community.

Man, I came off as a tightass nerd in that last paragraph, but... maybe that's part of what I am at heart. Anyways...

      Nice to meet you all.

Hey David, welcome to the forums

A dream journal's a great way to aid in recall as well as help you recognize your dream signs. I'll be checking it out after class.

And as for my signature, i have the amount of WILD's and amount of DILD's i have experienced. WILD stands for Wake Induced Lucid Dream, probably the most advanced method of lucid dreaming -- keeping your mind awake as your body falls asleep. DILD means Dream Induced Lucid Dream, when you're dreaming and you recognize that you're dreaming.

You can find these techniques in the tutorial section as well as many others. Be sure to check it out!

Hello David and a big Welcome to DreamViews.

Advice:- Having a dream journal to improve dream recall AND doing regular reality checks so that it becomes a habit are the ESSENTIAL basic skills necessary to achieving a LD unless you are a natural.

Anxiety and frustration will inhibit your chance of achieving a LD so slow down, take it easy and dont get dissappointed when it does not happen quickly enough.

Having a LD is one of the most fantastic experiences you will ever have and one that you will want to constantly repeat. Describing the sensation to someone that has not experienced it is like trying to describe the smell of a rose. Lets just say it is well worth any effort you put into achieving an LD.

Good luck, best wishes and again, .
