Talking Hi :) from the new guy

I am 25 years old and just beginning to explore all of the underlying functions which truly govern and fill our lives (a very exciting time for me). I stumbled upon this site, while in the search for a deeper mental and spiritual awareness. Before I began taking an interest in dreaming (about 2 months ago), I would only recall two or three dreams per month at best (in touch with nothing more than what is on the surface). I was much more concerned with caffeine driven; face paced, full-of-stress and deadlines existence. This new outlook has totally changed every part of my life, and I am looking forward to learning and sharing with Everyone . So moving past the introduction.......

I have been recording my dreams every since my first visit to this sight (maybe a month or so ago); and have been recalling at least 2 dreams per night. I just recently began doing the "reality checks" within the past 2 weeks. Feeling really good about the vividness and frequency of my recent dreams, last night I decided to try and induce a LD using the WILD technique (probably jumping the gun a little). So anyway........

..after sleeping for about 5 hours, I got up at 5am, drank a cup of green tea, and laid back down around 5:30a. I laid perfectly still, concentrating on my breathing until I began to feel a "vibrating" sensation. I began to see images of (best described) swirling light in various areas of the darkness. This next part is hard to describe, but I began to feel myself "entering into my mind", as if the outside world was becoming more and more faint as my mind began to vibrate as well. I was interrupted however by excitement (which I had to constantly repress), the guy above me stomping around, and soon....the liquid in my mouth which was looking for a way out (eww).

I would like to know two things. 1) Does anyone have any idea what I mean when I say "entering into my mind", or "mind vibrating" (not head or brain). And 2) Dumb question, what the heck do you do to keep from constantly swallowing and controlling other bodily functions such as this.

to DreamViews, aweseeker! It's great that you are wanting to explore your mind thru lucid dreaming, and you've come to the right place.

However, I'll let someone else answer your questions about WILD, because that is not my forte. If you practice reality checks, and start to recognize your dream-signs, those two things, along with your improved recall, may lead to a spontaneous recognition that you are dreaming (DILD), which a lot of us find easier than WILDing.

      Good luck! See you around.

I haven't had a successful WILD yet, (even thought I have attempted it many times) but I do know what you mean about vibrations and "entering your mind". I have experienced both of those things. I just want to assure you that you are not crazy, but I will leave it to someone else to explain how to harness those things so it is possible to move into a dream

The excitement repression comes with time as you learn to relax and adjust to the new feelings that you get from attempting to consciously dream. Controlling your body's desire to move, twitch, itch, etc is easy - just make the conscious choice to ignore it and not move (no matter how uncomfortable it may lead you to believe that you are). The desire to swallow is a different story. Two things can help with that.

First, prop your head up slightly so that things will tend to "drain". Second, try not to think about the desire to swallow. You can't just ignore it, you have to completely change your focus and not think about it at all. (easier said that done).

For additional tips you may be interested in the excellent thread How to trick your body to fall asleep while keeping your mind awake.
