my attempts at lucid dreaming and some questions

Hello everyone I'm new here, and really excited. I know i've had lucid dreams in the past-but i'm pretty sure i forgot i was dreaming right away.Well i've been trying to have lucid dreams since Nov 13, which is when i stumbled onto this site and that night i started my dream journal. I've known about lucid dreaming for years because my dad is(or was) able to do it often, but i thought you either could or couldn't lucid dream, I never knew it was learnable. So I've tried WILDing 4 or 5 times so far, and only the 1st time was the farthest i got-where my legs were tingling and i could feel my heart then my head pounding, but then it went away. All the times i've tried WILDing after that have been mostly failures because i only get as far as the tingling, and its not from lacki of impatience because each attempt lasted 45 min to over an hour. So am i too excited, like too awake, why cant i get as far anymore??? Then when i do relaxation techniques or something(separate from wilding), when i start dreaming, like when you're imaginations turn into dreams-a few seconds into them i realize they are dreams so i wake right away-thius has happened at least 5 times. Well last night i was dreaming and out of the blue i realize i'm dreaming, then i think "oh no, i'm gonna wake up" so i spin(i read it keeps you dreaming) around, and i don't wake up, then i decide to change the setting and thats all i remember. So either i entirely for got i was dreaming a few seconds latrer or i just dont remember tyhe rest of the dream. So like how do you prevent yourself from forgetting you're dreaming right away??? I'm trying to do reality checks everytime i use a door(i read a post from someone here), but since i've done that theres been a very noticable decrease in doors in my dreams, lol, any help??? And i appreciate any advice

That's GREAT! lol. It's like your subconscious is fighting it

WILDing is a pretty advanced technique, it takes a lot of practice...are you doing a WBTB in combination with a WILD? Because if not, it'll take you forever to get into a dream state, and by then you'll be sick of laying there and probably get distracted. Also the waking from your dreams when you finally get them is definately distraction/excitement. You have to learn to calm yourself.

And to remember your dreams better, your dream journal helps. Also each night, say to yourself "i will remember my dreams."

The problem with the door -- just do reality checks every time something seems strange or unreal instead of focusing on doing them every time you walk through a door.

telaranrhiod walker, first let me welcome you to Dream Views!

For those new to lucid dreaming, I advise that you don't try to set the lucid world on fire your first few dreams.. don't try to do too many tricks, summon people, change things, etc. Simply go with the flow and take it all in. Get used to what being lucid FEELS like so you can ground yourself in your dreams.. that's when the tricks/stunts can happen.

Your first few dreams simply act like a tourist in a new place.. go sightseeing and take in all the different colors and sounds. You may try to increase your vividness by confidently declaring "increase lucidity" or "clarity now" but that would be the extent of control I would recommend for struggling dreamers.

I still have to remind myself the moment I become lucid to get "grounded" in my dream (i.e., make it as lucid as it could be) instead of immediately racing to do something before I lose lucidity.

One of the tricks I use to "ground" myself is to "touch" things. By touching.. I mean really "feeling" them. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc. (this also helps me remain in the dream longer). Just remember that "the deeper the level of lucidity.. the better your lucid experience should be".

You might want to review the Newbie Zone Guide for helpful information about this site: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=36723

You may also want to check out the Tutorials forum which contains information on the various lucid dreaming techniques: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...splay.php?f=25.

If you should have any questions, please ask and we'll do our best to get you answers!

Persistent. That's the word which counts here. I fully agree with clairity. It is a long term run. Lucid dreaming has so many aspects which can be researched, but if you start too fast, you will soon find yourself withouth proper base to build upon. So explore gently and you will get there.

And one more think. Motivation is most important. If you feel, that you are loosing it, all other abilities will fall with it. Do whatever to keep yourself motivated.

      Welcome to the forum

Personally I wouldn't recommend using a WILD. The idea of it seems amazing, "instant lucid dream" however it's a hard technique to master. I'd suggest a WBTB mixed in with a WILD.

      To b12,
The 1st wild i did(and went the farthest in) was around 8 pm, the ones after that have been at 10 pm, midnight, then several when i woke up in the middle of the night like 5-6:30 am-and obviously this is spaced over several days.

Hey telaranrhiod walker! Welcome. I see you're a Wheel of Time fan, and Tel'aran'rhiod was the first thing I thought of when I heard about lucid dreaming as well. Good job on having a second LD, and enjoy your stay here. I'm also new, but I already love this place.
