It really would vary from person to person, some people naturally recall their dreams or can do so very well with little practice, while others have to work for a while to get to the same level. Make sure you're keeping a dream journal, as those are extremely helpful with improving recall.
Even when you get your recall improved, the memories could sometimes still be "memories of lucidity" just because the dream itself was of low quality. Don't worry if the first few lucid dreams you have are that way, because lucid dreams tend to get better as you have more of them.
