      Did I have an LD?

Hi, I'm new here and new to LD'ing. I really want to do this and something happened this morning that I'm not really sure was an LD. I woke up at 6:00 this morning, then sat up reading the forums and Twoshadow's dream journal until about 7:00. I went back to bed, and started repeating to myself "I am dreaming. I know that I am dreaming." even though I was still awake really, I thought this would be easier than putting it in the future tense and less likely to keep me awake.

I started to dream, I guess. Once I was pouring milk into this big machine to make cakes or ice cream or something, and in another, I was in my garage with my woodworking equipment. I had a few other ones as well. In most, if not all, I could hear myself saying, "This is a dream. I am actually in bed". I did an RC by putting my right index finger through my left hand.

As soon as I thought of myself being somewhere else in bed, the dreams started to fade and everything got blurry. I tried to spin a little, but I couldn't keep myself from waking up.

Every one of these experiences only lasted for about 5 seconds before I was pulled back to reality. So I'd like to know, are these real LD's, or is this just that Hypnagogic stuff I've heard about? It didn't really feel very vivid, or like I was truly conscious and aware like I've heard some people say. I still felt like a dream person.

These dreams went on until about 8:00, then I started to tell myself, "I am dreaming, and I'm going to stay in my dream." The next thing I remember, it was 10:00 and my wife was waking me up for church. I wonder if I had a really good one during those 2 hours and just don't remember it now.

      What do you think?

Yes, lucid dream. It's common for newbie lucid dreamers to wake up when they gain lucidity, but it's temporarely, and you will eventually be able to stay in them, just give yourself some time. You are doing the right things. If you look in the Dream Control and Attaining Lucidity sections, you will find some good tips to stay in your lucid dreams. Rubbing your hands together is a good tip that works for lots of lucid dreamers. If you experiment a little, you will find techiques that work for you.

      And welcome to Dreamviews!

Baaah, this thread totally reminded me that I had a lucid dream last night! It didn't last long. I only had time to fly around I think. Anyway, thanks thread!

      Welcome to DV btw.

yeah, id say technicaly, you had a lucid dream, just with low level lucidity.
lucidity isnt an all or nothing thing. sometimes youre more lucid than others.
you're definitely on your way to haveing full fledged lucid dreams though.

congrats, and welcome to the forums. hang around. you'll learn things, tips and tricks etc.. but I think you'll also find that just hanging around a board about lucid dreaming and thinking about LD's because of the boards etc.. it'll aid you in becoming lucid.

      easy...

Thanks guys. I'm happy I'm making progress. The night before, I tried the WBTB method, but it didn't work. I only stayed up like 20 minutes though. Last night, I stayed up the full hour like recommended. The dreams weren't very satisfying, but at least I'm moving in the right direction.

try not staying up at all too. I find not even getting out bed, works best for me. as soon as i wake up, i decide ill try to WILD, and i just roll over get comfortable and let myself fall back to sleep while thinking about lucid dreaming, and watching whatevers running thru my head. might not work for you, but its worth a shot.

I tried that today, I woke up about an hour before work, tried to wake myself some, and went back to sleep. I did manage to recall the dream, because I mnemonic'd myself to, but the dream wasn't lucid. I'm gonna try every day though. I can't wait to get into higher level lucidity. It sounds awesome.
