      Question Dream recall

Hello all, im trying to have efficiant dream recall, but am confused on when to set my alarm to wake up. I know REM periods are approximately every 90 minutes but am I to aim for every REM period to awaken or just one?

I usually don't use alarms , i just wake up during the night and i remember them.
      Try to use this
which worked very well for me. Try to say "*name of your subconscious* make me remember my dreams" or something like that.

yeah I also find that the shock of the alarm makes me forget my dreams. I use MILD and find it to be very effective.

As far as when to aim to wake I would suggest towards the later hours of sleep. This is because the dreams are longer and seem to be easier to remember. I think only once I have remembered a dream from the first REM period.

      Heya BeastHandz.

Many many people here on DV have found that waking naturally without an alarm is the best way to recall. It is; but sometimes (in my case... heh) it can help to use an alarm only at first, and ween yourself off it later.

It all depends on what your problem is currently. If you wake up, and almost immediately are able to start trying to recall, even if nothing comes at first, then I would recommend using an affirmation before bed, such as "I WILL remember my dreams." Make it count, and make it the last thing you think about before falling asleep. This can be difficult at first, but ANYBODY can do it. If you find this affirmation keeps you awake, try to focus on it less. If you fall asleep too quickly, REALLY really focus on that affirmation; maybe even say it out loud for a while.

On the other hand, if you wake up with absolutely no desire to recall, and/or your mind jumps immediately to other pressing thoughts like work, school, or even going back to sleep, XD, then an alarm might help, because you can almost associate the alarm with the thought of recalling dreams. Once you train yourself to automatically attempt to recall dreams upon awakening, you can ditch the alarm.

PM me if you have any questions... I've struggled a LOT with this particular concept, so I hope I could help. Good luck!
