How long did it take you?

Just wondering, for all you lucid dreamers, how long did it take you to develop dream recall? Several weeks, months, days, years? I am new to the concept of LDing and just started a dream journal the other day. Naturally, I don't expect immediate progress, or to have decent dream recall within a few days, but I'm just wondering how long it took some of you here.

Dream Recall? Ive had it ever since I was young. I can usually remember four or five dreams a night. Unless of course I had a stressful day that day (school tends to be it) and just fall into a deep sleep. But I've never had to try and master dream recall because I've always had it.
a dream journal is a very good start. Keep at it and youll be remembering dreams. Make sure to write down everything you remember from the night. Sights, sounds, smells, colors, emotions. everything will help in the end. Good luck!

      Welcome to DV Jeno!

As far as Dream Recall goes, I've had it since I was young. Dream recall isn't neccesarilly a direct tie to lucid dreaming, it just helps. Dream recall (i'm sure you know) is a fancy way of saying "I can remember my dreams". Unless you never remember any of your dreams, or part of your dreams, you have a form of Dream recall.

How long did it take for me to develop EXCELLENT dream recall?
      Probablly a good 3 months.
You do this every fucking time.
      No sweat.
      No tears.
      No guilt.
You do this every fucking time.

Sweet. I've had some minor degree of dream recall but am working on improving it for the reasons people have posted here - that is, what good is dreaming lucidly when you can't remember you were dreaming lucidly? I just took a nap and I may have had a lucid dream - I was thinking "haha, alright, I'm lucid! Woot!" and then everything seemed more vivid. There was a trailor and something about my friend and his mother... See? There you have it. Dream recall is important!

I suppose this is a bit of progress? I don't know if I was actually lucid or dreaming about dreaming lucidly. Either way, I didn't wake up at all, but I still remember a fragment of the dream because I had another one about 80-90 minutes later (based on my clock), so I must be progressing in my recall.

      Press forward!

I've always possessed varying degrees of dream recall through my life.
When I actively started keeping a dream journal, within a month I went from remembering a dream every couple of nights to a few dreams a night. At one point I was remembering 5 - 8 dreams a night.

I've always been able to remember a dream or two, especially if I wrote it down, but after about 3 months I started getting great recall.
