For how long have you tried? What techniques have you tried? (There are lots of them!) And for how long have you tried each technique?

Learning lucid dreaming does require patience and persistence. Don't give up on one technique too easily, but stick with it for at least a few weeks before trying another one.

If you feel that you need more personal follow up, check out the adoption program that's available when you have been here for two weeks or more.

drmrgrl, Luminous gave you some great advice.

Lucid dreaming does take some people longer to achieve than others.. the key is not to get frustrated and to keep trying.

      Welcome to Dream Views.

thank you both for this! well i have troubles falling asleep and then staying asleep so i use the technique where you lay in a comfortable position and imagine your body shutting off. it works sometimes but usually not. and then once i fall asleep i get too easily distracted in my dreams (like last night) and i loose the chance to become lucid. is there a better way to fall asleep?

Are you referring to the WILD technique? That doesn't work in the beginning of the night, because you need to be in a REM cycle to work.

You might want to look into DILD (dream initiated lucid dream), which is mostly about reality checking (RC) throughout the day. It's a well working techniques for most aspiring lucid dreamers, but as with all techniques, it requires patience and persistence. More information about it here: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ead.php?t=9423

When it comes to falling asleep, just let yourself fall asleep like you use to. WILD and FILD are mostly the only techniques that require falling asleep in a "different" way.

      I hope this helps.

Have you been keeping a dream journal, identied dream signs, and been performing reality checks?

For the beginner these are very important. Also, some people take longer, as long as 6 months to a year, so don't get discouraged!

I recommend starting a dream journal here, that way some more experienced members can read it and find dream signs that you might miss.

      Welcome, drmrgrl.

      Glad you found us.

I agree that dream journals are very helpful for recall, motivation, and finding dream signs etc. And keeping one here on thef orum is a fun way to do it.

      Good luck...

You will eventually get there, drmgrl. I know it can seem very hard until it happens.

Another thing that might help is to have a goal in mind; such as flying. That might be motivating. Otherwise I think you already got the best advice you could.

Definitely! Getting feed-back on your dreams can be very motivating too. I'll go look for that.
