Talking Hello. Nice to meet you all

Hello, I'm a beginning LDer and I've been having some troubles. Ever since seeing the film Waking Life I've been obsessed with this dreaming technique. I found some information online as well as started reading Stephen LaBerge's book on LDing. Unfortunately, I've found that I'm not too great at remembering and recording my dreams after I wake up. I have a really nasty shift at my work from 7AM to 10, 3 days of the week, so whenever I wake up those mornings my mind is only focused on going back to sleep and never relaxed enough to go over the night's dreams. The days I don't have work in the morning I will sometimes awaken and remember my dreams, but I feel too tired too jump out of bed and start writing in my journal and soon the image fades. I'm hoping this community will provide me with some helpful information as well as keeping me focused on my goal of controlling my dreams. Can't wait to meet all you fellow dreamers.

Welcome to DV! A tip is to write down just a few keywords that will help you remember. It doesn't take long, and is better than nothing. You can write down more as soon as you find the time. I use this myself, and it works for me.

Hi, IcarusFlewTooHigh. It's nice to meet you!

I know having a difficult sleeping schedule make dreaming and recording more challenging. I agree with the others, that writing key words when you get up will often help you remember the dream and later when you have more time you can write out the dream in more detail.

I have also found that keeping my dream journal online here has been very motiational. There is a good support group in that part of this forum.

So have you had any LDs yet?

If you haven't yet, check out the Quick Start Guide at the top of the Newbie section. It had good info about this site.

Good luck and see you around.

Hello and welcome to the forum Icarus (cool myth btw)

I know what it's like to have early shifts for work too However if your recall sucks to need the motivation to keep a dream journal and write down your dreams. Just jot down anything that you can remember from the night before. It can be anything from people, events, locations and emotions. You can even use self-suggestion and make yourself wake up after each dream. Don't worry about being tired if doing this though as you can just write down keywords and then write out the dream later in the morning after looking at the key words.

      Hope this helps!

      Have fun and good luck!

Thanks for all the welcomes and advice! I didn't have work today so I was able to lay in bed and go over my dream. Also, I started an online dream journal because, like twoshadow's suggested, I believe it will give me more motivation and feedback from this communtiy. I will definitely try your suggestions of just writing down a few keywords next time I'm struggling between dream recall and sleep.

I not entirely sure if I've ever had a LD. I have never remebered being in a LD, but due to my low level of dream recall, I think I may have had one and just forgoten in the morning. Hopefully being part of this forum will accelerate my dream recall so I can frequently LD and remember doing it.

IcarusFlewTooHigh, as far as jumping out of bed and writing in your journal, you may wish to do what I do. I keep a small memo pad open with a pen clipped to the spiral next to my pillow. When I wake up from a dream, I don't turn on the lights, nor open my eyes.. I just reach for the pad and start writing. I write alot or a little (i.e., just enough to jog my memory).

Oh, and welcome to the forum!
