      dreamsigns?

      Hi all,
I've been keeping a dream journal for a couple weeks now. I have lots of dream signs now. Should I record and remember every single dream sign? Or should I just pick a few?
What should I do with the dream signs? Should I just think about them alot and do a reality check when I think about one?

      Thanks,
      John

      Welcome to Dreamviews, John!

Yes, the purpose of dream signs are for you to reality check when you see or think about them in real life. The idea is that habits generally carry over into your dreams, and so if you form a habit of reality checking when you see a certain object in real life, you are more likely to reality check when seeing the object in a dream.

Dream signs are chosen because they recur frequently in your dreams. Just because a sign shows up two or three times in your dreams doesn't mean it's a dream sign. So pick a few dream signs that appear very frequently, and do a reality check whenever you see that sign.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me or any of the dream guides if you need any further help.

Find all of your dream signs, then pick the ones that you encounter through an average day so that you do reality checks when you find yourself in the presence of a dream sign.

Record every dream. You can either enscribe every detail, or if you're strapped for time some key notes. The more details is always better though.

I get an index card and make a list of five prominent dreamsigns. Then I reality check based on them throughout the day. It's not a bad idea and produces some results.

Hope I've helped in some way.

Oh, and welcome! Stick around. It's well worth your time.

      But...Stephen

      Hi,
      Thanks,
But doesnt Stephen Laberge's book refer to dreamsigns as abnormalities, like people you never would see , or weird objects. Things you wouildnt normally ever see in a day.

Like if in alot of my dreams I'm in diffenent state or the house from my childhood. For these dreamsigns how would one set up a reality check.

      ..or am I off track?

      Thanks,
      John

got to train yourself to pick up on these abnormalities. be able to recognize them even in a 'dream' state of mind.

He refers to four categories of dreamsigns, RunflaCruiser. The following is paraphrased from "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming." by Stephen LaBerge.

Action: You, another dream character or thing does something unusual or impossible in waking life. Examples: Malfunctioning devices, John throws mutated sludge at Jack, I'm breathing underwater.

Context: The place or situation in the dream is strange. You or other dream characters play strange roles. Time setting could be different. Examples: I am on the moon, I am in middle school again, my dead friend is alive again, I'm a WWII commando.

Form You, other dream characters or objects are oddly shaped. You are wearing strange clothes, things are unlike real life. The setting is deformed somehow from real life. Examples: I have a castle corridor in my room, my mom has three eyes, my wallet transformed into sludge, I am a giant, Sarah's hair is longer than I remember, my house is an extra story tall.

Inner Awareness An odd thought, strong emotion, an altered perception. The thought can change the dream environment. Sensations felt can include the feeling of sleep paralysis, strong sexual arousal, unusual physical feelings, etc. Perception is unusually clear or fuzzy. Can hear things you shouldn't be able to in waking life. Examples: I was about to crash but when I thought about it my car swerved back on the road, I wished the locked door open, I am extremely depressed/euphoric, a strong sexual urge comes over me, I could see perfectly without my glasses, everything had the look as if I had taken a hit of acid.

I hope this has helped you identify what dreamsigns are. Each person has a specific dream sign category that occurs more often than others. Mine is Context.
