      was this lucid dreaming?

so lucid dreaming is about being aware your dreaming and being able to change what you dream about? if i understood it right i used to do that all the time when i was younger. if i was having a nightmare i would know it was a nightmare and simply close my eyes, count to ten, open my eyes and i'd wake up. i only really remember changing a dream once, i was stuck and something was trying to kill me then i made it disapear.. was that a mild form of lucid dreaming? i've honestly never heard of it before but it sounds amazing... bit disapointed i cant do it anymore though lol

Ofcourse it was lucid to a degree I mean you did say you knew it was a nightmare (a dream).

It's quite a common question though some arn't exactly sure reather they knew for sure it was a dream, in that case theres no line between lucidity and non lucidity, it's like going outside and asking if the weather (dream) is warm or cool. (lucid or non-lucid)

But like your case, I've had tons of lucid dreams in my childhood that started as nightmares where I'd try to wake myself up.

I wanna be the very best
      Like no one ever was
To lucid dream is my real test
To control them is my cause

xXkieraXx, lucidity has nothing to do with "control" (meaning that you can be in a lucid dream.. but still not be able to affect any changes).

Lucid dreaming is merely the "awareness" that you are dreaming WHILE you're dreaming.

Did you ever say (or think) to yourself, "I'm dreaming?" and, if so, did you BELIEVE this statement/thought to be true? If so, then you were definately lucid.

Next time, if you're in doubt, do a "reality check". The reality check that has never failed me is the "plug my nose and see if I can breathe" reality check. It never hurts to do your favorite reality check a couple of times or even do two different ones.. just to really convince yourself!

Yes, that was lucid dreaming. However, it's a misconception that control is lucidity. Lucidity is just knowing that it's a dream, control is usually just an added bonus.
